KUALA LUMPUR: Decision on the Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) doctrine will only be known after receiving the consent of Conference of Rulers, which will convene next month, says Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs’ (MKI) muzakarah committee would be meeting today until Thursday to also discuss the issue.

The muzakarah committee is chaired by former Johor mufti Datuk Dr Nooh Gadot and the meeting is attended by all state muftis.

“A special paper prepared by Jakim (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia) on GISB will be presented to the committee and an outcome can be expected from the meeting,” he told reporters after the pre-launch of the 64th International Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA).

Mohd Na’im added that the muzakarah committee’s decision regarding the matter would be presented to MKI chairman Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak and deputy chairman Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, before being presented to the Conference of Rulers.

“We can expect a decision by October. We have acted swiftly to bring this paper into discussion tomorrow,” he said.

GISB, which has been embroiled in scandal following allegations of sexual abuse against children at its welfare homes was initially founded by Ashaari Muhammad – who was also the founder of the outlawed Al-Arqam movement.

According to GISB’s corporate video on its website, following Ashaari’s passing in 2010, the company was helmed by two of its former executive chairpersons – Hatijah Aam (Ashaari’s widow) and Mohd Rasidi Abdullah.

Its current chief executive officer is Datuk Nasiruddin Mohd Ali.

The corporate video also reveals that the company employs a 5,356-strong workforce with 1,656 families in its business network, of which 1,231 are monogamous families and 425 are polygamous.
