KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department has zero tolerance for rogue officers, including those allegedly linked to a medical visa syndicate facilitating the entry of migrants into the country, says its director-general.

Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the department will not hesitate to act decisively against any officers found guilty of misconduct.

“Stern action will be taken regardless of rank or post. We are committed to ensuring no violation of integrity is committed, in line with the department’s main focus to improve governance, discipline and integrity so that our image and reputation can be elevated in the eyes of society,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He was commenting on an online portal alleging that the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) was investigating several Immigration officers for their involvement in a medical visa syndicate.

The report claimed the department’s visa syndicate was raided last week and documents seized.

Zakaria said the department will leave it to the EAIC to investigate the alleged involvement of some of its officers with the syndicate.

He confirmed that the EAIC had come to the department headquarters to investigate the alleged integrity infringement.

“We will cooperate transparently and justly,” he added.
