PETALING JAYA: The high-tide phenomenon in Klang caused water to encroach on a section of Jalan Shahbandar near the South Port ferry terminal. At around 6am yesterday, the water level was below knee height and lasted for two hours before receding completely.

Police and the Survey and Mapping Department were present at the site to monitor the situation.

The National Hydrographic Centre had earlier forecast that peak tides between yesterday and Sunday could reach up to 5.8m, potentially causing flooding in coastal areas, especially when combined with heavy rainfall.

Specific areas in Port Klang known to be susceptible to flooding during high tides include North Port, South Port, West Port, Jalan Syahbandar (Foreshore Road), Sungai Sireh, Telok Gong, Pulau Indah, Tanjung Harapan and Bagan Hailam.

Authorities had advised residents in these coastal areas to remain alert, especially those in low-lying areas.
