KUALA LUMPUR: The police addressed several pressing issues related to transnational crime at the 42nd Aseanapol Conference, held at the 1 Convention Centre in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, yesterday.

The Malaysian delegation, led by Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, presented various concerns during the Heads of Delegation (HOD) Forum and discussions with dialogue partners.

In a Facebook post, the CCID said that the five-day conference, which commenced on Oct 21 and runs until Oct 25, serves as a vital platform for discussing transnational crime issues.

"Key topics covered included drug trafficking, cybercrime, terrorism, wildlife smuggling, and human trafficking in the Southeast Asian region. Throughout the forum, Ramli stressed on several challenges related to transnational crime, particularly commercial crime, which poses a significant threat to Malaysia and other Southeast Asian nations," the post read.

The conference was attended by senior police officials from Asean countries, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Notable attendees included Narcotics (Forfeiture of Property/Legal/Detention) deputy director Mohd Zani Che Din, Criminal Investigation Department deputy director Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng andChief of International Relations for the Inspector-General of Police's Secretariat, Datuk Suparamaniam Ramasamy.

"The ongoing conference is expected to have a positive impact on the police, helping the force to remain relevant in the future. The next conference is anticipated to be held in Thailand next year," it said.
