PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has defended the actions of the Sabah Chief Minister who left it to the authorities to probe the corruption claims involving the state’s assemblymen.
The Barisan Nasional chairman said he had seen the media reports on an audio recording allegedly discussing cash payments between a whistleblower and an assemblyman.
“Hajiji’s stand should be an example to other party leaders.
“As we all know, the Sabah state election will be held before the end of its term in October next year.
“We should expect that whatever happens will depend on the results of the investigations by the authorities,” said the Deputy Prime Minister in a report by Sinar Harian on Friday (Nov 15).
The next Sbah state election is not due till next September.
On Monday night (Nov 11), an audio recording purportedly discussing cash payments between the whistleblower and a GRS assemblyman, said to be Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob, emerged on social media.
It was reported that Dr Yusof, the chairman of Qhazanah Sabah Bhd, dismissed the corruption allegations and said he left it to the MACC for a full investigation.
He also said he believed that some parties had used artificial intelligence (AI), after one of the individuals in the audio recording was claimed to sound like his voice.
Following the allegations, Hajiji had called on MACC to investigate the matter.
