KOTA KINABALU: A state opposition party has challenged Sabah Pakatan Harapan, particularly DAP, to reveal its stand on Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), which is currently embroiled in an alleged bribery scandal sparked by a whistleblower.
Parti Warisan legal adviser Chin Teck Ming (pic) said Sabah DAP must openly inform the public of its position and not remain silent on the issue.
He said newly elected Sabah DAP chief Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, who is state Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister, should make it clear to the people the party’s position as a coalition partner of GRS led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
“They have to clarify their position on working with GRS, especially in the next state election due by September 2025,” Chin said in a statement yesterday.
He added that DAP has been portraying itself as a party that is committed to clean and corruption-free governance.
“If that is what they have portrayed themselves to be, can they now explain to the public why they are still working with GRS, which is tainted with allegations of corruption?” he said.
Chin cautioned that the silence of Sabah DAP could be construed as they still want to keep their ministerial position, government-linked company chairmanship and other benefits.
“If Sabah DAP is sincere in its political struggles and objectives, it should leave the GRS government.
“Otherwise, its anti-corruption slogan is just a political show to mislead voters,” he said.
Sabah Pakatan started cooperating with GRS in January last year after Sabah Barisan Nasional-Umno led by Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin pulled out of the GRS coalition government.
