Did Malaysia go bankrupt when RM tumbled in 1997?
Nope. It made Malaysian goods cheaper and more competitive abroad. And Malaysian exports sold in USD, like crude oil, palm oil, rubber, electronics/electrical goods, chemicals, petrochemicals, agro-products etc. etc. brought back more RM to Malaysia.
Ditto with Russia.

In fact, a low rouble would make Russian exports - including arms exports - even more competitive, especially if they're priced in USD.

Russia is still a fine place for investment. US-led sanctions won't stop serious investors from India & China from going to invest in Russia.

The ruble tumbled to a record for a second day, prompting speculation Russia’s central bank intervened to slow the rout as weaker oil prices worsen the outlook for an economy verging on recession. Government bonds slid.
Russia’s currency is on course for its worst year since the nation’s 1998 default after getting battered as sanctions over the conflict in Ukraine blocked companies from western debt markets and oil dropped into a bear market. Five interest-rate increases by the central bank failed to alter the ruble’s course, while choking economic growth as inflation accelerates to a three-year high.
_______________________________________________________________________
Another piece of Russia-bashing, American-manufactured propaganda.
What happens to the rouble is of little concern to Russians. The prices of goods in Russia remain the same, whether the rouble rises or falls, because Russia does not import much foreign merchandise.
A falling rouble only impacts on the richest Russians, those dudes who go spend Russian money abroad.

Tell ya what. Poor OPEC countries, impoverished even further by Saudi greed, would make fantastic recruiting grounds for IS.
For dudes with an axe to grind against greedy Saudis to come within close striking range of some juicy looking Saudi refineries.

Only US$347 bil reserves? Now, for a country with 200 years of oil reserves, that is really no great shakes.
Even little Malaysia, with not that much oil to brag about, has US$135 bil of foreign reserves.
Pretty soon, Malaysia is gonna be richer than Saudi.
Especially now that Saudi is pumping up their oil so fast.

IzoKLSE, the world economy will NOT collapse even if oil drops to 20, due directly to Saudi's own stupid actions, BTW.
But in such a situation, the Saudi economy will be the one to collapse, becoz it has ONLY oil to sell, and NOTHING else.
And at 20, it will be much, much below break-even, even for Saudi.

No matter how much oil they have, Saudis live or die on US goodwill.
They don't have any other credible close ally.
Unlike Iran, who hv and will always be on good working/business/political terms with Russia and China, and also many other non-US-beholden countries.

So, yes, Ring, all it needs is some strong signal, some heavy pressure from US, for the Saudis to get the message.

Ring, you are still under the MISCONCEPTION that Suma is mainly an oil trader, therefore heavily dependent on short term oil prices.
No, it is NOT.
Not yet.
The bulk of Suma's earnings, for the next several years at least, will be from fees obtained as a CONTRACT OPERATOR, i.e. a SERVICE PROVIDER, providing construction, engineering, management, consultancy etc. to associate companies Markmore Energy and Caspi Oil & Gas.

Saudis are playing a dangerous game, no matter how legitimate they feel their actions are.
Their irresponsible behaviour, thinking only of their own obscene wealth and not giving much of a damn to the fate of folks in other oil producing countries, could be their very downfall in the end.
Just imagine it, hundreds of thousands, maybe even tens of millions, of struggling folks in countries ranging from Libya, Iran to Venezuela. What if a few of them get angry enough that they start going to Syria-Iraq and joining IS, not out of any altruistic religious zeal, but simply to get themselves within striking distance of a few Saudi refineries.
Not an impossible scenario, I tell ya.

OptiMouse, I hv my own valuation for Suma. It is based on real company fundamentals, as proven by recent quarter earnings reports, for instance.
It is completely independent of negative short term sentiments & perceptions.
RM24.6 mil profit from RM42.2 mil revenue, for Q3, 2014. That is all I need to hold on to, for now.
Not the panicky selling behaviour of a herd of scaredy catty short term players.
