PROSPECTS FOR 2017
The outlook for the Group is expected to remain challenging as traditional media remains pressured by prolonged weak adex and the industry faces increasing customer fragmentation, technological advancement and shift to digital media. Furthermore, new business initiatives implemented by the Group in 2016 to diversify its revenue portfolio is expected to remain in gestation for 2017.
Prospects for the business platforms for the year are as follows:
a) Television Networks – Several major advertising clients have recently concluded their annual commitment agreement for 2017. tonton video on demand service is also seeking to grow its subscriber base through more partnerships with other telco players and intensive on-ground promotions.
b) Print Media – Despite the challenging outlook for traditional newspaper business, the Group remains committed in defending its print business. Continuous cost management and operational efficiency is crucial with the lower advertising and newspaper sales outlook affecting the industry. Diversification into digital shall be able to complement the existing traditional business.
c) Outdoor Media – Further rollout of assets for rapid transit concessions are scheduled to commence later in the year. Other out-of-home platforms are expected to maintain its high occupancy rates throughout the year.
d) Radio Networks – The recently launched initiatives, notably podcasts, e-Commerce partnerships and brand icons, offer new opportunities for Media Prima Radio Networks (“MPRN”) to compete in the rapidly digitalised media landscape. These new initiatives should provide MPRN with new ways to entice advertisers to have all rounded campaigns from on-air to digital space.
e) Digital Media – The proposed acquisition of RAHSB will enable access to resources and competencies to drive growth in digital business by acquiring expertise in digital content curation and digital content marketing. The acquisition of RAHSB increases content monetisation opportunities for the key market segments by leveraging on the Group’s audience base, big data initiative and traditional media platforms to strengthen the newly acquired business further.
f) Content Creation – Exploring potential new IPs for animation and co-production with external broadcasters while expanding the current content sales in overseas markets. Measures are also being taken to improve production capacity and efficiency as the segment expects to reduce its reliance on Television Networks.
g) Home Shopping – With the encouraging growth recorded for this new platform, the outfit is looking at additional avenues in increasing its exposure to further tap the nation’s home shopping/e-commerce growing market. In addition, it is looking at expanding by diversifying into more local products in its offerings.

Following the announcement of the Geely-Proton agreement, we were treated to a short presentation of Proton’s future plans, which will involve the development of its first-ever SUV. The model will utilise the platform used on Geely’s best-selling model – the Boyue.
Measuring 4.5 metres long, the Boyue is designed by former Volvo designer Peter Horbury, who heads Geely’s design studios located in Gothenburg, Shanghai, Barcelona and Los Angeles.
In its domestic market, it is offered with a range of engines, including a 2.4 litre naturally-aspirated unit (162 hp/210 Nm) and a 1.8 litre turbo (163 hp/250 Nm). Transmission options include a six-speed manual or dual-clutch automatic, depending on engine choice.
The Geely Boyue also offers an impressive list of equipment like an eight-inch display screen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, and safety kit includes lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control (ACC), which allows the Boyue to match its highway cruise speed according to the car in front of it.
It wasn’t made clear how much of the Boyue design will be carried over into the Proton SUV, so we’ll have to wait and see how it shapes up. With the Boyue as a base, do you think Proton’s first-ever SUV could be one of the models that will revive the marque?

No changes to FBM KLCI’s constituents after semi-annual review
02 Jun 2017 8:37 PM
SP Setia will be one of the six new constituents of the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Mid 70 Index.
KUALA LUMPUR: There will be no changes to the constituents of the FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI, following the semi-annual review of the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Index Series yesterday, said FTSE Russell, a leading global index provider.
The leading global index provider also said six new constituents would be added to the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Mid 70 Index, namely SP Setia, CapitaLand Malaysia Mall Trust, Serba Dinamik Holdings, Eco World International, Malaysian Pacific Industries and Petron Malaysia Refining and Marketing.
However, QL Resources, UEM Edgenta, Supermax Corp, Tropicana, UMW Oil and Gas and Hume Industries would be deleted from the Mid 70 Index, it said.

For FTSE Bursa Malaysia Hijrah Shariah Index, FTSE Russell said it saw an additional two new constituents - IOI Properties Group and SP Setia - but Kossan Rubber and QL Resources would be deleted from the index.
“All constituent changes take effect at the start of business on Monday, June 19, 2017,” it said in a statement on Friday, adding the next review would take place in December 2017.
FTSE Russell created and managed a wide range of indexes, data and analytic solutions to meet client needs across asset classes, style and strategies.
Part of the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Index Series, the FBM KLCI, was widely used by investors as the primary benchmark for the Malaysian market, including derivatives through FBM KLCI Futures and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI Options.
The benchmarks was also tracked by a number of index-linked financial products such as exchange traded funds. The index series was reviewed semi-annually in accordance with the index ground rules.
On the FBM KLCI reserve list, FTSE Russell said it comprised five highest-ranking non-constituents of the index by market capitalisation, namely Malaysia Airports, Gamuda, AirAsia, YTL Power International and Sapura Energy.
The reserve list would be used in the event that one or more constituents are deleted from the FBM KLCI in accordance with the index ground rules during the period up to the next semi-annual review. - Bernama
