Charlie Munger: “The Graham value investing system is intentionally designed to underperform an index in a bull market; this is confusing to many people. The underperformance of the Graham value investing system during a bull market is an essential part of this style of investing. By giving up some of the upside in a bull market, the Graham value investor is able to outperform when the market is flat or down.”

Hevea was in financial trouble around that time la, caused by over expansion. But they have turnaround strongly since then.
Now that they are financially strong and stable, what's wrong with purchasing it from the director?
This is what people called "Picking bones from eggs".
Had the director not brought that time when it was depressed, who knows they might have to brought it even higher from someone else.
This is why you need to do homework before whacking people's stock. It only reflects how little you understands the stock.
I think it's a waste of time to try to reason with someone who tries to pick bones from eggs.
Anyway, I don't like to whack people's stock and falsifying stories, because karma awaits.
Well, good luck in your investment in evergreen.

To be honest, at Hevea's current financial situation, what is 14mil to Hevea's horde of cash anyway?
The dividend payment easily exceeded it.

The original cost of investment on the Land to the Vendor was RM1.638 million and the Land
was acquired by the Vendor on 8 April 2010 "VIA BANK AUCTION" by HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad during economic downturn.
The Purchase Price in 2016 is arrived at based on a valuation conducted by Messrs. BT Properties on 20 May 2016.
If you have tons of cash during economic downturn, you can capitalize on anything. Don't say 270%, even higher than that is also possible.

Please lah, how long has it been since the director purchased the land?
No need to account for inflation and increased value over time?
And you called yourself an investor...
So the director must cut the price and sell cheap cheap?
But sell cheap also cannot one oh, like a certain someone kena investigated by MACC for buying cheap house.

@raider - raider, I'd appreciate it if you STOP SPREADING UNFOUNDED RUMOUR, and provide with actual facts. Otherwise you are no different from fake news.
If you really think they are cheating the money, go ahead and lodge a police report. Actually, please do so.
Here's the fact, In the latest presentation of by Hevea in March to fund managers and institutions, they have specifically stated that they have acquired the 7.7 acres of leasehold vacant land in Seremban, to build additional factory premises and production facilities for HeveaPac for the manufacturing the new veener-based products for customers in Japan. A report can be found from them.
The estimated completion date is around end of 2017.
How much capacity and projected improvement in revenue should be announce soon after.

Doesn't matter. As an investor we have all the time in the world.
Warren Buffett: “Only buy something that you’d be perfectly happy to hold if the market shut down for 10 years. If you aren’t willing to own a stock for ten years, don’t even think about owning it for ten minutes”
10 years, 20 years? No issue. On the contrary, as a trader I don't think he would wanna stuck in a stock for 10-20 years.
That's not trading, that has become long term investing already.

I don't think Ricky is being lanci. Yes I agree Ricky often can be quite skeptical, but he's definite not arrogant, otherwise he wouldn't offer to teach.
He is just pointing out the facts. I'd say he is closer to Charlie Munger, someone who point out things in a very blunt and critical manner.
Contradictory information is important. It good so that people can activate second level thinking.
If you can't take a little criticism, then you are very blinded by cognitive biases, specifically, confirmation bias.

Dividend
Subject to Shareholder’s approval at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting, the Directors have
recommended a final dividend of 5.0 sen per share (FY2016: 3.5 sen per share) on the enlarged
375.51 million shares (FY2016: 300.41 million shares). In Ringgit term, this amounts to RM18.78
million (FY2016: RM10.51 million) an increase of 79% compared to the previous corresponding
period.
Proposed Corporate Exercise
The Board proposed to undertake a subdivision of every two (2) existing George Kent shares into
three (3) George Kent shares, thereby increasing the number of George Kent shares in issue
from 375,512,710 to 563,269,065. The lower adjusted ex-price of George Kent shares will make
the shares more affordable and improve the liquidity of the shares traded on the Main Board of
Bursa Securities.
Not sure how I felt about the share split, it may help improve the liquidity as long as they create more value I guess.

Wow, Gkent result is really stellar as we expected.
Long term investor are being rewarded for their patience.
Anyway, Revenue is not the best way to indicate profitability.
You have Gross Profit and Net Profit for that reason.
And it gets murkier the lower it goes in the income statement.
Some TL:DR basic highlights:
- Gkent's cash and eq further ballooned from 241m to 430m, crazy.
- Receivables jumped from 10m to 34m but at the same time Payables jumped from 72m to 117m.
- FCF remained strong.
- Borrowing has gone up to 57,319m, which as expected as they acquire more projects.
Most Profit mainly account from engineering
Revenue of RM155.21 million for the current quarter ended 31 January 2017 was 34% lower as compared to RM234.65 million for the corresponding quarter in 2016.
Segment profit of RM49.37 million for the current quarter ended 31 January 2017 was 53% higher as compared to RM32.23 million for the corresponding quarter in 2016.
Construction accounts for 97% of the revenue and 96% of segment profit
of the Engineering Division. The lower revenue was mainly contributed by the revenue recognised
according to milestone achievement.

@geary - You're welcome. I enjoy your writings on value investing too.
I agree with your point there, when it comes to value investing, many do not fully understand it, as they have little to no patience for value investing.
But little did they know:
"The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient." - Warren Buffett.
The Intelligent Investor, is indeed one of the best book on investing I've ever read.

"In the short term the market is a popularity contest; in the long term it is a weighing machine." - Benjamin Graham.
The most dangerous time to buy an investment is at the peak of its popularity. (2.70)
At that time, all the positive data and assumptions are reflected in the price.
Everyone that is going to buy has already bought.
The optimal time to buy an investment is when no one else wants it. (1.60)
At that point, all the negative data and assumptions are reflected in the price.
Everyone that is going to sell has already sold.
Understanding the relationship between Price and Value is essential to successful investing.
There is no such thing called "Opportunity cost" in investing:
(i) As long as you are invested, you are covered from deterioration of inflation (3% p.a.).
(ii) Even if you sold and switch to another stock, there's no guarantee it will 100% sure it will go up. Worse, it may go down instead.
(iii) To sum up the third, "Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it ... he who doesn't ... pays it." - Albert Einstein.
Even if a stock remained flat for multiple years, for example, it goes up 100% on the 5th year, that equals to 20% CAGR a year.
100%/5 years = 20%
If you don't have the patience, then investing may not be your cup of tea.
You may opt for trading, which is a higher risk higher gain. Who knows you may do better?

yfchong, no need to stress.
Understand that WTK is an Asset play.
Asset play usually takes longer time to realize it's value when compared to growth stocks - usually up to several years.
But when it goes up it goes quite a lot, because you are bottom fishing by buying when it's at it's ugliest state. I believe WTK will turn ugly duckling into beautiful swan in the making.
Take an example you know, Can you imagine buying Hevea when it's 20 cent?

Raider, why don't you write to them to ask for answers? Isn't it better than keep speculating?
If not, at least go find out the state of the land. Is it a prime land? how useful is it to the business expansion? I'm interested in knowing too.
Who knows he has a land useful to the business and Heveapac brought it from him? What's wrong with that? It's a win-win situation.
Like my friend always says, in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 11, states: "Everyone has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty."
I only believe a person is innocent until proven guilty.
Whatever you say is mere speculation, and can be taken to court for defamation if the owner of Hevea pursue such interest.

We are all fundamentals investors, hence we should act professionally like one.
Stop with all these baseless fact and accusation.
NTA is one way to invest, but not all. Raider is only saying half truth, but not full.
For example, if you neglect stocks such as DLADY, APPLE sole because their share price is higher than NTA, while buying companies such as PMCORP, XINGQUAN for their NTA, you would have made an investment mistake.
NTA is not the only yardstick to value a stock.
Understand that valuation is an art, not a science.
Cannot simply pluck a number and say it's overvalue.

After hearing you said that, I immediately understand that you are a "Value pretenders" - investors who brand themselves as value investors but actually miss the essence of value investing, which Seth Klarman warned about in 2005.
Warren Buffett once said: “You’re neither right nor wrong because other people agree with you. You’re right because your facts are right and your reasoning is right – that’s the only thing that makes you right. And if your facts and reasoning are right, you don’t have to worry about anybody else.”

But I'm not interested in 2017 stock pick competition.
I did try to compete for 2016 one, but somehow TanKW missed my post and my seat was not reserved. The rest is history.
For 2017, I would go for hardcore defensive stance as we are approaching near the end of 10 years cycle.
And being hardcore defensive, these stocks won't drop too much, but it will also take extremely long time (up to several years) for them to realize their value.
Hence I am not confident I will be able to do well in the competition which has a time frame of only one year.
Best wishes to all competitors. May the victory belongs to the winner.
