Disagree. A billion RM is big for us laymen but from the perspective of a big company like hengyuan, you have to see debt from the perspective of its balance sheet.

Its debt ratio is only 0.33. Meaning there is RM1 worth of assets to cover every RM0.33 worth of bank borrowings.

0.33 is low. This is especially so for a company in a capex intensive industry.

Management hasnt bought back any yet. To do shares buyback, they need to get shareholders' mandate. When the mandate is in place, then anytime management can execute shares buyback.

Management of hengyuan didnt have the mandate prior to this. So they are asking for one now. Nevertheless, it is usually viewed as their subtle 'whisper' to the market that the share is undervalued now. If it continues to be undervalued, with a mandate in hand, they will enter the market to buy its own shares.

THE BIG BIG PROBLEM with CRACK SPREAD DROP is this:


it results with Extra - Double X Exponentially effects on EPS.

(1) firstly the Gross profit itself does not drop proportionally...as there is breakeven crack spread threshold which it needs to surpass to realize a Gross Profit. Gross profit drops exponentially against crack spread drop instead of proportionally.

(2) secondly, there are Fixed Cost of 150 Million per qtr where the Gross Profit has to surpass (exceed) before realizing as Net Profit.
This has even more exaggerating effects on EPS.

(3) lastly, the new tax realization will make EPS number reduced by 25%


If you plot a graph of crack spread versus eps on and x-y chart...it will look like you are about to jump of a cliff....to death.

This is the industry norm. All refineries are subject to turnaround. Management will always plan and try to coincide the maintenance during time when they see their internal spread as thinning. Refining business requires a lot of strategic planning. When to buy raw materials, when to release your products, when to close for maintenance, when to hedge etc.

All refineries have different strategies and timing. If not, then everyone just follow Probability Prick's Mogas 92 Crack Spread and shut down at the same time when crack spread is thinnest, correct?

This industry is much more complex than it seems on the surface. It is a strategy game.
