Plantantions already paying windfall tax since more than 10 years ago . Nothing new .
2021-10-02 13:09 | Report Abuse
Palm oil sector is already the most heavily taxed sector . I don't think there is any new punitive tax add on .
No doubt Simeplant like iIOI and GENP are deeply undervalued ! The disappointment is whenever their share price go up, EPF and other foreign funds who still have substantial holding take the opportunity to sell down due to their blind pursuit of ESG compliance!
I prefer smaller plantation like Bplant, Thplant, MHC, taaan , swkplt, SOP and hsplant where EPF and foreign funds have zero or minimal holding.

I top up 300k unit at $0.61.
The trading pattern of this share I observed for past few months seem to tell me that somebody always deliberately 'managed' the price down .

Let's evaluate risk and return :
6 months share price B4 ex date ;
H - $0. 87, L- $0.48, Avg- $0.675.
After factoring the RI & warrant , the adjusted prices are
H-$0.635, L-$0.44. Avg -$0.54
Cost of acquiring via OR = $0.095 +$0.395 =$0.49 ( you get 1 mother share plus one free warrant)
Assuming the likely outcome that share price recover after RI to the average level (ie $0.54), your return will be :
$0.54 +$0.20 (est price for Wr) = $0.74 vs your cost of $0.49. ie 51% return.
If steel price remain high and company's profit improve, it's share price may to return to the 6 mth H ($0.635). Your possible return : $$0.635 +$0.28(est price wr) =$0.915 vs your cost of $0.49 ie 87% return .
Sound realistic?

Bplant at today's price can't go wrong . 4th qtr EPS should be $0.18-$0.20 after taking in the gain on disposal of Kulai estate. Full year 2021 EPS shall be $0.24- $0.26 . Thus, perspective PE is only 2.5x ($0.62/$0.25)! Unbelievable!

@karlos, I think the listing rule is a general offer is triggered if any shareholders already holding more than 33% in the company increase it's shareholding by 2% or more within any 6 months period. SM definitely has no time to waste on this . He will do what it takes to make it successful in one go.

The kulai estate monetisation will not be the last one .A couple more to come . Just watch out .
The companies borrowing will be substantially reduced.
As at 30/6/21 , borrowing was about $1,171 mil ($1,362 as at 30/6/20). There was already $191 mil reduction in borrowing due to strong positive cashflow generated from operations over a year. I expect cashflow from operations will still be as strong in next 2-3 years .
Asset monetisation plus substantial positive cashflow from operation will turn Bplant into very low gearing or even net cash company soon.
With reduced borrowing, the company is in strong financial position to go for privatization via SCR.
Privatization via general offer by Bstead /ltat is out of the question as they don't have the money to do so.
Privatisation of Bstead will then follow once Bplant become wholely owned.
This is because Bstead can tap it's 100% owned Bplant's resources to strengthen it's financial position for a serious privatisation offer later.
Just my thoughts for sharing.

Reached $1.79 . Just over 2 days the prospect of privatization succeeding suddenly turn brighter???
I still hold the belief that it will go thru in tomorrow’s EGM. It’s worth the risk I took last Friday loading up at $1.64.

In fact , when China decide to curb industrial production due to energy shortage and environmental concern steel companies outside of China stand to benefit tremendously. President Xi promises his people blue sky and committed to do it’s fair share in global climate change, All polluting industries and high energy consumption industries will be controlled . China has moved higher in the technology economy . All these means that China will no longer be the exporter of cheap and subsidized products to the world which include steel . . China may even turn importer in the near future. As a result , the whole market dynamics has changed. steel companies outside of China will enjoy stable and improved profit from now on.
I have started accumulating steel stocks , a sector I never touched before.

Many Steel and palm oil companies making record profit and their stock price is trading at single digit PE which is abnormal! Nothing wrong with the fundamental of steel and palm oil sectors , except that the Malaysian market is very sick. Absolutely no liquidity and no buying interest. Consequently, stock price continue to stay in doldrums.

2021-09-23 16:36 | Report Abuse
ESG compliance will eventually lead prices for agriculture commodities, CPO especially, metals (steel, aluminum etc) and O&G to go higher and eventually stay elevated. Because of ESG , coupled with covid hiccups, there has been no capital investment and worse still there are rampant cut back to meet decarbonisation goals.
