Subsidies are actually a bandaid and are currently used by this group who are attempting to look like a government to control inflation. Can you imagine the rate of inflation in this country if the subsidies were to be revoked? Fuel and power are the to main drivers of inflation globally.

If subsidies are reduced or completely removed what will the likes of Tenaga do? Yes, increase their tarrif rates, like all other counties have done.

@Yt Chong, I posted a couple of weeks ago that I thought the chart was starting to look a little bit interesting for a bit of a move north........although I mentioned I was a bit sceptical because of the market, I still got it wrong. Even an interest rate rise did nothing to move any of the banks.

Two weeks ago the KLCI was around 1,445 and today we are flirting with 1,415.........so I guess those two figures point out why RHB and other banks are currently sitting where they are. Overall market sentiment is woeful, which is understandable.

There is no argument that the cost inputs of coal and gas have increased, therefore adding to power generation expenses. Now, whether you like it or not you can't argue the fact that those extra costs are the burden of the Government, whether you like it or not, producing a net neutral cost effect on Tenaga.

Whether you agree with this system or not is irrelevant. Personally I'd like to see a modified pricing system where those in dire need receive the Government subsidies and those who can afford it pay the market value. But my opinion is irrelevant, as the current system is set in stone.

The bottom line is there is no net benefit or loss to Tenaga on their fuel input costs. The only issue is Government payments of the subsidies to Tenaga . Any lag in payments may/will increase the size of Receivables, however the bottom line is that Tenaga will be paid for those subsidies.

If this system falls down, then expect to pay FULL market value for your power which happens in the majority of the world. Ask someone, as an example, in the UK what they think of that system!! There would be an uproar in this country if that was implemented.

Bottom line, the government needs to retain the current system, therefore has to pay/subsidise Tenaga.......or the plan turns to shite and the lights go out.

This might be the start of a price "recovery" that has softened the price recently due to market sentiment and the 25 cent dividend drop.

I decided to look at the Maybank chart for any similarities that might show perhaps a slight change in bank sentiment. There is a hint of a possible reversal in the Maybank chart but perhaps not as defined as the RHB chart.

I'll be surprised in the Funds don't start to nudge bank stocks up during this second half of 2022, but I'm a bit reluctant to confirm whether this is the start of a move up or not.

Worth monitoring though, imo.

Hi KimSua, the volume on Friday clearly doesn't match the covering volume, so I'm suspecting late "consolidated" volume from the cover, meaning late reporting by the Fund from a period of time. Just my thoughts.

Something odd has happened in the covering of shorts. The previous day's shorts stood at a total of 15,637,100.
This morning's updated figure for close of business last Friday is now 10,407,200. So a "cover" of 5 million+.

One thing you can always be sure of when it comes to Tenaga, the Funds will play the absolute shite out of it for their benefit, and not the retailers benefit. Retailers sit and watch their investment wearing a crash helmet and their fingers crossed while the Funds have their fun.
