Kedah First State To Receive TM's 4G Wireless Broadband Service
ALOR SETAR, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Kedah is the first state to receive Telekom Malaysia Bhd's (TM) new 4G wireless broadband service, TMgo, with its launch in two districts in the state today.
TM chief executive officer, Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, said TMgo was launched in 17 locations in Kota Setar and Pendang.
He said the service, which followed the tests at end-2013, was part of TM's efforts to provide broadband service in the towns and rural areas.
"We pick Kedah as the first state to enjoy the service because the demand for wireless broadband services was high.
"Within a short period, another 20 locations in Kedah will be able to enjoy the service," he said.
Zamzamzairani said this at a media briefing after the launch of the service at Kompleks TM here today.
He said in another six months, TM would expand the services nationwide and 280 locations had been identified.
Meanwhile, Kedah Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who launched the service, said it was the state government's plan to offer excellent communication service.

KUCHING: Instacom Group Bhd (Instacom) is optimistic of achieving satisfactory performance for the financial year 2014 (FY14) on the back of promising prospects for solutions providers in Malaysia’s telecommunications industry.
In its Annual Report 2013, Instacom chairman and independent non-executive director Choo Seng Choon reiterated the government announcing its aspirations to increase Internet coverage in rural areas.
To ward this end, the government plans to build a total of 1,000 telecommunication transmission towers in the next three years with an investment value of RM1.5 billion.
Choo said the telecommunication industry is also expected to grow by leaps and bounds as Malaysia moves into the Long Term Evolution (LTE) era with major operators looking to expand their data earnings.
Statistics from global mobile player Ericsson outlined that mobile data traffic doubled this year in line with the global trends. It foresees mobile data volumes rising by a compound annual growth rate of around 50 per cent between 2012 and 2018, the chairman quoted the report as saying.
Meanwhile, based on reports by Protege Associates, the telecommunications network services market is expected to register a compound annual growth rate of 3.3 percent during the period from 2010 to 2015, while household broadband penetration rate in Malaysia is projected to reach 75 per cent in 2015.
“Given all these positive factors, the board is optimistic of achieving a satisfactory performance for the coming financial year ending Dec 31, 2014,” Choo said.

Green Packet Solutions will aggressively ramp up its LTE device portfolio to cater to growing global demands while the group's communication services, NGT Networks will invest to grow connectivity routes to more countries.
"LTE telcos buying from us grew over 360% from 2013 to date, ramping up our product portfolio will enable us to grow even more rapidly. Compared with WiMAX, we will begin to gain access to Tier-1 telcos which are in favor of LTE.
"Achieving growth for the communications pillar is straightforward; establishing new routes for NGT Networks will naturally grow traffic volume and revenue," said its group COO Kay Tan.

FORMER Renong Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Halim Saad is scaling up Sumatec Resources Bhd, which is set to make more than RM1 billion in net profit by 2018.
Halim controls 24.9 per cent of Sumatec and has been maintaining his shares since last November as he believes that the company can grow fast.
“He is not selling his shares anytime soon. He plans to build up the company by injecting more assets into it. He is eyeing some oil and gas (O&G) assets in Central Asia,” said a source.
Sumatec expects to produce 30,000 barrels of oil a day in Kazakhstan by 2018. Sources say the company is targeting an average net profit of US$30 (RM95.30) per barrel.
“This means it will make around US$900,000 a day from 30,000 barrels, or more than US$328.5 million a year, compared with less than US$20 million currently from existing operations,” said the source.
