Is getting rid by Proton good for DRB? Proton making losses over RM1 Billion a year. If keep, die faster. To me, yes.....good for DRB.

Me too, I have been holding on. Fortunately, dividends have been good and hoping that it remains. I am hoping, without buy-backs, we will get more dividends.
I prefer dividends to buy-backs, as to me, buy-backs benefits the major share holder by increasing their control. Does not benefit us ikan bilis.
I have been here for a couple of years, it is not weather they will be out of PN17, it is when....and when it happens, that is when we should get good returns. Even if it takes 1 more year, a minimum 50% return with potential of doubling or tripling. Which is somewhat guaranteed, just a matter of time. Safe bet. Have to be patience. That is why I was thinking of adding to my holding. Most of my funds is invested in MAA.

Nope, nothing....just trying to explain the Prudent concept as I understand it.

Any accountant here? I heard they have to be prudent in accounting standards. Gains in share price can only be recorded in the books once sold/realised. But if losses, and forsee continued losses, than have to provide provision. Can anyone confirm this.

LPTan68, yes, as in all counters that get out of PN17. Their stock price can shoot....some have go up by more than 300%. For me, 50% from current levels also I happy already. But have to be patience. Wondering if should add some more or not. I think will wait until MAA get extension for getting out of PN17.

I was talking to my broker. According to her, fund managers have pre-determined buy and sell prices. Once their target is hit, the will execute the orders that had been set earlier. Only make changes to the target once a committee (a team) agrees. So in case price go down, the trader is not answerable on why didn't sell. They work differently, based on pre-set pricing targets, and also portfolio of stocks set by a team and if a stock is for strategic purpose like for dividends or something else. It is not like a trader that makes own decision. Only than I undrrstand why they buy/sell.

DRB is more than just Proton. Proton has been a drag on the entire group. Once sold, only a 50.1% drag. But no need big investment for the future, can take Geely/Volvo platform. Better chance to turn-around the company. Is getting Geely as Partner of Proton good for DRB (again DRB not Proton)? Answer is Yes. Also, transfer of Proton prized Asset (land & property) to DRB, Is it good for DRB? Again, answer is Yes. If good for DRB, share price will up once definitive agreement is signed.

Traditionally Proton has not done well in car pricing over RM70k. Preve, Suprima, Inspira & Perdana, all.above 70k and hardly selling. The volume is in Saga & Persona 30+~60k. Bayu in China selling around 90k. I don't think this will sell very well here at the same pricing. If they bring in the X1, selling at RM20~30k, that will do very well. Can give Axia a challenge.

Most of the discussion was centered around the PN17 status. June 28 is approaching, deadline to get out of PN17. Directors feel will get extension from Bursa to find new core business. But up to Bursa to give extension.
As for new core biz, they are still looking. They do not want to rush, looking for something with value. Identified a few, but felt expensive so stop, still having negotiation with others. Hoping by year end will have something to bring to us.
Won't be as aggresive on share buy-back as before, unless share price falls a lot. Analyst don't look very favorably on buy backs.
Also questions on where is the cash from the sale of MAAT was explained.
End of the day, nothing new or exciting. Wait and see.

Could have gotten a better, more experienced accountant at a lower price. Hahaha....stay a way from this counter.....major shareholder family using company like a personal piggy bank!

The Proton deal with Geely will go thru. Good for both buyer & seller.
Geely getting Tg Malim plant, shares of Proton & Lotus very cheap. Only 170 million + give platform of cars that has been fully paid for.
DRB getting prized Proton land & don't need to make future investment in R&D. Plus potential share of future profits via higher utilization of Tg Malim plant.
Also, based on Proton Chairman speech, it is a done deal. Hold on tight till July. Enjoy the show

Was speaking to a friend of mine at Proton, according to him, last month Proton sales increase by 30% compared to April. Hopefully, next quarter loss at Proton will be even lower compared to last year.

I think investment is also good. This stock is worth more than RM1.78. Future intrinsic value is much higher than current price. Sum of parts (POS, Muamalat, 'less' of Proton losses, Proton land bank transfered to DRB, Puspakom, Alam Flora, Honda etc).
Look at it another way. Market Capitalization of DRB is RM3.4 billion. POS has a market cap of RM4 billion. Slightly more than 2 billion belong to DRB. Balance of business is worth more than 1.4 billion. That is why I say share price is cheap and as investor can collect.

There is no disposal of shares. From my understanding, Geely will pump in money into Proton and acquire additional shares, just like a private placement.

Geely and DRB sign heads of agreement. I know it is not binding, but hearing what the chairman said in his speech, I believe it is a done deal. Yes, once definitive agreement sign in July still need each country authority and shareholders to approve. Looking at Qtr 1 2018 for deal to finalize. In this type of deals, usually all the approval have already been gotten before hand in a G2G understanding. I am still accumulating as my time frame is long term.

Company making losses, boss paying himself millions and his son hundreds of thousand. When need money, can always do rights issue. Does not care about minority shareholders. Don't touch this stock.

31st March results will be a loss. That is a given.
30th June also loss, smaller than 31st March.
30th Sept with government refund of R&D 1.1 billion.....not sure how will be recorded in the books. Anyone here know accounting standards?
2017-05-30 07:16 | Report Abuse
This ia what I gather. The process of getting Geely as a partner in Proton will take some time. From the signing of the heads of agreement last week, will have to sign definitive agreement in July.
After that, each company need to get their respective government approvals and approval from their shareholders at a EGM.
For the deal to conclude, it will be by the end of this year or latest by end January 2017.
Still got long time to go. Maybe that is why people sell. To me, I think this is a done deal, if your investing horizon is 6~7 months, good opportunity to collect on weakness.

Not happy with the Quarterly results. Fortunately YTD still looks good. I am still holding as believe things will tyrn around in the the manufacturing.

I am taking a long term view. Continue to buy on weakness. Without 100% of Proton being a drag on the group, I see brighter future. Once Qtr report out, might be another buying opportunity.

I am confident it will up.
1) Government reimburse RM1.1B in terms of a grant (free money) subject to execution of the agreement. So agreement will go thru. DRB is GLC, if gomen wants it to go thru, it will go thru.
2) Shah Alam land transferred to DRB - This is worth billions.
3) Good for Geely, gain foothold in Asean and can penetrate Australia.
4) Can see the light at the end of the tunnel, valuation of companies is the future potential. DRB is now a good long term stock.
5) DRB other valuation, POS Malaysia, Muamalat, Honda Malaysia, Defence Contract, Modenas, Alam Flora, Puspakom etc. Proton no longer a 100% drag on the group. Long term, price can go beyond RM3.oo

Those who think stock will go up, can use this opportunity to collect a bit more. Those who think will go down, better sell.
To me, it is still up from when I bought it. Can use this opportunity to sell other shares and collect a bit more DRB as my target price is much higher from here.
Is my decision right or wrong.......time will tell.

If wasn't for Dow Jones drop yesterday, by now sure 1.8x.
2017-05-18 08:16 | Report Abuse
A 3 reasons for Dow Jones Drop yesterday:
1) Gone up too fast since Trump became President. 1st major correction.
2) Feds not expected to raise interest rates in June as economic data not showing expected growth. Risk RM will become stronger. This is not so good for FLB.
3) Trump Russian crisis. Expected delay in implementing his reforms in tax and infrastructure spending while he deals with this crisis.

Saw some people sell, some people asking if can buy.
My question is, "Why sell when stock going up?" or "Why don't buy when stock going up?"
It is the opposite of "Don't catch a falling knife".
Your money, your decision. I am still holding and cannot add because no more funds.

My valuation is a bit different. Going forward with better margins, this Financial Year expect the EPS to be RM0.26. The historical PE is about 8. Giving a Target Price of RM2.08.
Again, do own research before buying or selling.

To me, results is mixed. Top line (Sales) reduced because of lower volume and ASP (Average Selling Price).
Bottom line (Profit) increased due to improved production recovery rate and lower production cost. Effectively giving better margins from efficiency in production.
Concerns: Shortage of log supply and ringgit becoming stronger.
Prospects: Margins expected to be better with continuous improvement in manufacturing efficiency and new machinerary that is able to produce products that have higher selling price and better margins.
Conclusion: Profit is most important. So can still buy.
Pls do own research. Before buying or selling.

If pay people money to take over the business, but safe jobs and overall economy, yes....that is why government put carrot, once definitive agreement sign, will give R&D grant of RM1.1 billion. Again I ask, is this good for DRB? Again my answer is Yes.
