If history is a good guide, then it is difficult to catch them that way. As far as I can remember (since the 90s, and I am sure earlier too), such activities have been around, and I can't recall any big syndicates nailed.

My observation: Every time when u see a warrant trading at huge discount (20+% this morning for WB), usually it is due to major shareholder dumping wholesale to suck in "bargain hunters".
The churning up of the mother share is to facilitate the above. I will not be surprised the major shareholder has disposed all the warrants today. Except for a brief bounce, if any, there is a good chance MMAG will be finito stock for a while.
Don't catch this falling knife and keep your fingers.

Those are converted from ICPS, usually for control purpose cos conversion ratio is 1:1 but need to pay an additional 54sen/share. Otherwise it will be automatically converted at a ratio of 1:10 (dilution) on expiry date.
I really don't know how u get the idea that mother share has to be pushed up. Of course it is still possible if u r lucky but definitely for different reason.

I do not like the 2 recent transactions, but luckily their size are not big enough, as pointed out by beluga, to be a big drag. So long as there is no more transactions to keep reminding people of the past acquisition-related bad memory, I guess buyers will come back eventually because the stock is really "cheap" on various fundamental metrics.

Today's pump on MMAG mother is a way of clearing the WB - my 2 cent

They did the same thing to KTG 1.5 year ago. MMAG is finito for a while, which KTG has already gone through and is recovering from. I won't be surprised the owners have cleared all the warrants (1+ year to expiry) today. If u study the last AR of KTG, u won't find owners holding any warrants.

While I think share price will move higher, I don't buy @investisthekey's reasoning. When I first read it, I was wondering "like that also can ah?" lol

At least MMAG related group of companies are better than the KV related ones in the sense that they are doing real biz. FYI, foreign markets are not that great beyond the facade they put up. The so-called hedge fund managers are essentially syndicates that wear expensive suits and can spin more refined stories!

Just look at the BCC transaction, the results were disclosed up to FY19 only. You should ask WHY!? FY20 results should be A LOT WORSE than FY19 due to Covid and the nature of the cruise biz. By now 4Q20 and FY20 results should be available already. Omission by convenience or they just try to avoid shocking minority shareholders?

My apology if what I wrote has hurt your feeling. Perhaps adding "CF" in front of "lesson" would sound less condescending. Seriously, I think you guys have gone on the wrong analytical track. Don't take my words for it. Check with your investment specialist (FMs, analysts, investment bankers or accountants) friends re what I said in multiple posts earlier. I wish I could explain better and clearer. All the best and take care.

THE DLA RETURNS
The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) has cottoned onto what is happening in the tin market and, as reported by Fastmarkets, is preparing to sell its first metal in a decade.
The DLA accumulated tin stocks in the 1960s and 1970s as conflicts in Korea and Vietnam heightened concerns about strategic supplies.
The Agency turned seller in the closing decades of the last century. Its last major sale was in 2007, when the tin price was also on a surge, the rally topping out at $25,500 in May 2008.
The current tender is for just 40 tonnes of tin but the DLA may only be testing the waters. As of last September it held 4,015 tonnes of metal, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The tender comes with a disclaimer about the potential weathering of the tin, but with imports still back-logged there is not going to be a shortage of bidders.
DESPERATELY SEEKING TIN
It remains to be seen whether the DLA’s sale is a one-off or the start of a campaign, but it’s not going to be enough to move the global supply dial.

Who in the right frame of mind would trade the warrants given the lofty 60sen ex. price and two weeks time to expiry? Huge traded vol for the last 2 days. Either they know something or they are plaid mad!

100 lots of ICPS? or mother shares?
2021-03-17 15:02 | Report Abuse
Let's think of it this way, if you are a minority investor, u might as well buy the shares directly.
The parties that convert the ICPS at 54sen cash + 1 ICPS obviously know something that you and I don't.
Don't be a sin kah. Cheng chiak gong, gong chiak ti kong!

Not single controlling owners. They might have agreed on certain % holdings earlier among themselves and not easy to do that via mkt. I won't be surprised many of the buys and sells u see on your screen are theirs. Hence, I am not too concerned about the MMAG-induced weakness.
