SC warns public on unlicensed financial planning services

KUALA LUMPUR (July 28): The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) has cautioned the public about firms and individuals who promote the offering of financial planning services without being licensed by SC.

“Such firms and individuals may present their qualifications, awards won or memberships in certain associations as credentials.

“However, only financial planning companies and their representatives who are licensed by the SC are permitted to carry the title 'Financial Planner' and offer financial planning services,” it said in a statement today.

SC also emphasises that it is essential that investors are advised by licensed professionals who are able to provide an unbiased plan that serves the best interests of their clients.

Stock market is not for everyone. If you cannot afford to lose better don't get involve. Today we hear CP Teh story. Tommorow who know we might even hear hng33 or KC Chong story.

One person I know is KC Chong. Do you have other people in mind? Perhaps should analyse whether his recommended counters has good future like what he analysed base on past.

The future is unknowable and cannot be quantified.

But some calls themselves a sifu and completely ignores the future and focused on 100 financial analysis of the past using balance sheet ratio and income statement ratios from the past.

Looks impressive but also misleading.

If it is misleading better not to have than to have.

Common sentence in KC blogs. If KC really can make much money he must be very rich. Why still need our fee?

Good article! Master Chong, what is your next superstock?

I have yet to mention how Elsoft, BIMB-W, MRCB-W. Insas(all KC recommended) performed for past 1-2 years.

Why no mention how Coastal Contract perform? Recommended at RM 3.27 today only RM 1.52 or loss of 53.5%.

I have a 55% overall portfolio gain (36% realized and 19% unrealised gain) for the year of 2015. I must say big thank you to you and you are true guru of all.
I am 99% confident that my portfolio have another 300-350% upside potential for 2016 where i recently has completed my portfolio restructuring. I am still sharpening my investment skill.

Dontfollowblindly, of course you can sue them, i read in newspaper that there were some similar cases in other country, but not yet in msia. Anyway, you must prove that he purposely misled you when he written the article, you kust proce that he knew Genetic will fall but still go on asking you to buy. And you should ready the full report as well, included the risk part, and the disclaimt part. If he written thousand words, but one only read the 'Buy' part, then cant blame the advisor completely, as there is no guarantee his recommendation will be 100% right, otherwise he will be billionaire already, no need to write research papers :D

If we lose money following Investment Adviser wrong call can we sue them? I mean glove stocks buy call and many others. How about OTB wrong call in Genetec? Can I sue him?

Only those with an Investment Adviser license will allow him /her to issue a Buy or Sell call on equities listed on Bursa.

Remisiers or dealers have a Dealer Representative license. This allows you to execute orders with Bursa Malaysia in an efficient and fair manner.

Johnny, yes, there is some weakness, but there is some benefit too, imagine if anyone can simply make recommendation, without any obligation, and no need any credibility, then it will be chaos and more people will get conned. I rely a lot on the authority licensed broker research, there has a lot of condition need to be fulfill, like must declare the risks, show PE and EPS, and explain the reason behind their call ...and so on. Yes, it is delay and not always right, but still a valuable source, my lost rate is low bcos i always check the credible sources before buying.

OTB Genetec call cause me to lose 56% in 4 months.

If you are so sure abt cpo trend,go long the cpo futures and make millions.Why buy palm oil counters?Will they rise in tandem with cpo prices?

Too many competitors business so cannot raise price easily or customers will run. Among NTPM competitors are Tesco, Econsave, Nice, Giant, etc.

He called and asked me whether I have invested lots of monies in the Stock Market?

I answered him a flat, "NO". I only have Less Than 5% of my Capital in the Stock Market.

Kc....you have heard of strong profits weak cash flow.....cannot buy according to you.

Coastal will have strong cash flows weak profits this year....can buy?

Coastal has 1 billion inventories of generic boats, another 1 billion of designed to order contracts.

In view of market conditions, their contracts will have thin margins and they intend to dispose of their inventories at low to negative margins just to get rid of the inventories.....They will have two billion dollars cash flows , very weak profits.......can buy?

Do OTB said so in 2013,14 & 15? Do he perform that bad after 3 months each year? He is the only participant who charge RM 960 people expect at least gain RM 1 K and not lose RM 17K. Look like more participants qualify to charge RM 960 for tips not only OTB.

You know this guy is so stupid. People teach him what is financial risk management using warrants as example, he followed blindly without understand the articles, and simply bought loads of MRCB and BIMB warrants and lost until pok kai.

He was so lucky that he had never bought tens of stocks I wrote about which went up sky high, but just bought the only stocks (one of the very few stocks) which I wrote about until also pok kai.

That is why you must change you name and don't follow blindly.

Leave out Maybank C6 which is 100% loss.
