世界医学权威杂志《柳叶刀》曾刊登一项研究报告，显示76%的新冠肺炎患者在出院6个月后仍有至少有一项后遗症，例如疲劳或肌肉无力占63%，睡眠障碍26%，焦虑和抑郁则有23%。病毒造成的影响是长期的，从脑神经到身上所有的组织器官都有机会受到攻击和损伤。随之而来的还会有腹泻、便秘、失忆、头痛、心肌外层脂肪化、现急性呼吸窘等一百多项症状。有1/3的新冠患者在康复5个月内重返医院，更有1/8的患者因新冠肺炎并发症去世。

此外，墨尔本本大学的一项研究则发现，大多数康复者的免疫系统只会对病毒产生14%免疫力，如果他们再次暴露于新冠病毒之下，很大机会再次受到感染。

在以前公众对新冠患者的认知里，只有老年人容易成为重症患者，但该诊所的数据显示，新冠后遗症里10到30岁的年轻人占了近乎一半，另外有30%左右为40代，女性人数比男性多了40%。也就是说，40岁左右及以下的年轻人和女性更容易受到新冠后遗症的困扰。

而29岁的杰尼斯偶像、Kis-My-Ft2成员千贺健永为冠病康复者，他表示自己是在11月确诊，在经过治疗和隔离后痊愈，但至今两个多月过去了，仍受困于嗅觉障碍的困扰，比如闻不到食物的香气，吃东西味同嚼蜡而无法享受，也担心会因为闻不到泄露的煤气等让自己处于危险中。

全球新冠疫情已经持续超过一年，全球确诊人数也在不久前突破一亿人，而日本的病患截至目前也有逾41万人，当中有6722不幸病逝。据当地医生指出，有不少年轻的康复病患饱受后遗症的困扰，甚至有者大脑思考能力下降。

日本政府月一月初第二次发布紧急事态宣言，和之前相比有一个明显的现象是，之前不在乎新冠病毒的年轻人，这次有很多新增患者都是来自该族群，而且这些人在即使康复后，仍需面对后遗症，严重影响生活。

涩谷一家专门应对新冠后遗症咨询的“平畑诊所”，院长平畑光一医生至今为止接诊的患者超过700人，他透露有很多年轻的新冠患者在康复后因长期持续的症状，如倦怠感、呼吸困难、脱发和失去味觉等而烦恼，超过95%的人有疲劳感，80%以上的人情绪低落，大脑思考能力下降。
