Yup...hard to explain the causes n effects...but vaccine n masks need to reduce the price...others for specific tasks in ICU, etc...then costs will be higher. Those are specialized tasks.

Friends, many of you have been writing to me with questions about a COVID-19 vaccine.

This week’s announcement that a Letter of Intent has been signed between our government and AstraZeneca for a vaccine raises some important ethical questions because the vaccine in question makes use of a cell line cultured from an electively aborted human foetus.

Whether this vaccine is successful or not, it is important that the government does not create an ethical dilemma for people. Along with the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney and the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Australia, I have written to the Prime Minister Scott Morrison, asking the government to pursue similar arrangements for alternate vaccines that do not raise the same ethical concerns, so that Australians will have a choice when it comes to vaccination. There are currently 167 vaccines being researched, many of which do not use foetal cells in their development. It is in the best interests of the community that vaccination is widely taken up and this deadly disease defeated, and this will better be achieved if the vaccines available do not create an ethical quandary.

I’ll have more to say on this in next week’s Catholic Weekly. In the interim, you might like to make your desire for an ethical vaccine known to your local MP.

Coronavirus will be around “for ever” and people are likely to need regular vaccinations against it, a former chief scientific adviser to the UK government has said.

Prof Mark Walport, a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage), likened the virus to influenza, as he said repeat inoculations on a global scale would almost certainly be required to control it.

He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme coronavirus was not “going to be a disease like smallpox which could be eradicated by vaccination”.

“This is a virus that is going to be with us for ever in some form or another and almost certainly will require repeated vaccinations,” he said. “So, a bit like flu, people will need revaccination at regular intervals.”

His comments came ahead of an announcement by England’s chief medical officer, Prof Chris Whitty, who said it would be “foolish” to plan for winter on the basis of having a coronavirus vaccine.

For businesses and the U.S. economy, that means there will be no “V-shaped” return to workplaces.

“Most businesses in the country will be hard-pressed to operate in a way they want to schedule when we have ‘houses on fire’ in our communities,” said Osterholm. “I understand the pain and economic suffering, but I don’t see any way we get numbers down regionally. We’ve got to stop this virus activity or there will be fear we will see these peaks, but every time it goes down, it plateaus at a higher level and just comes back again. In many communities in this country, I see no way to operate as they once did.”

Cases have started to show some signs of slowing in recent hot spots across the U.S. South and Southwest, including Florida, Texas and Arizona.


In fact, both experts believe Covid-19 is here to stay.

“We will be dealing with this forever,” Osterholm said.

“Covid is here to stay,” added Frieden.

It looks more likely than not that this virus keeps circulating even with a vaccine.

How effective is Covid19 Vaccine.

If a vaccine becomes available over the next six to 12 months and we can produce enough of the vaccine for the population, there are still big question marks about its effectiveness, Frieden said. This week the first vaccine to go into a large-scale Phase 3 trial, from Moderna Therapeutics, started toward its goal of enrolling 30,000 individuals. But the scientific community still does not know how long a vaccine will be effective for, and whether immunity within elderly individuals will last. It also is not known about any side effects, as well as the percentage of the population that may refuse to get the vaccine.

“We have great vaccines and still 100,000 deaths a year from measles,” Frieden said, speaking about Africa. “In the U.S. we still have hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations from flu each year with vaccines, and it looks more likely than not that this virus keeps circulating even with a vaccine.”

Osterholm, who has studied the coronavirus class of infectious diseases around the world, including MERS and SARS, said these viruses are “notoriously famous for not granting durable immunity.” He added, “We will be revaccinating on an annual basis.

For those who are normally healthy, effectiveness will be higher, for those who are obesed, and have other types of health problems, effectiveness will be lowered. We can still get infected with Covid19, just like flu vaccine but the survival rates will be much higher for healthy individuals. For unhealthy and obesed individuals the survival rates are lower.

Spot order enquiries on the rise. Management has indicated that enquiries for spot orders from the United States and Europe are on the rise due to the second wave of COVID-19. As such, the company is looking to raise the spot order allocation to more than 20% (vs last two weeks’ guidance of 20%).

In MQ Research’s assumptions, it is projecting Top Glove will gradually increase its spot order allocation to 30% from 20% through 2Q FY21E (February 2021).
ASP rise higher than expected. Management has indicated that overall lead time has increased to nearly 15 months from 13–14 months two weeks ago, and the company is seeing higher conversion orders.

This should provide Top Glove the power to raise its ASP. The company now plans to increase the ASP for August order deliveries higher than initial guidance of 15%.

As such, MQ Research is increasing its FY20E/FY21E/FY22E ASP assumptions 3%/57%/4% to factor in both higher ASP increases and spot order allocation.

Lownet2323 2 - 3 years ago. Aimed for fortune 500. And bought a glove company without checking.
This year, around rm 20- buy a little to let trader think the stock is good.
Around rm 25, buy a little to convince other buyers to think the company is sound.
It is not sincere at all. Should let investors know pe of 100 needs 100 years to pay back even with full capacity - cannot reduce pe to 30++ within years.
