Middle class used to mean a 1200 Sq ft house, 1 not financed car, a home phone. Our standard of living has shifted dramatically. My wife and my blue collar self are 3/4 of the way to retirement at 60. Paid for home on 1/2 acres, couple of nice paid for vehicles, toys, etc. You can choose to be a victim, or you can choose to happen to life.

I heard from a girl originally from the Philippines with a teaching degree, she was offered a job in a small kansas town. The school paid to bring her here to be a teacher for them. She went from the slums of a third world country to working as a teacher, bought a house, bought a new car and is living the dream. From an actual slum, no running water, limited electric, a rough life for sure, to middle class in less than 2 years and is completely set up. If you are not willing to make changes and make better choices, then someone else will.
There's many American teachers that could have taken that job... But they didn't, think about that.
Life is choices, make better ones...

My great grandfather supported his wife and 9 kids on the sole salary of a Teacher.

My grandparents who were 40 & 47 in 1997 worked as a teacher & a veteran truck driver. They have a ranch style 5 bedroom home, with a house for my parents next door, on a large property. We had that years ago, took vacations, etc.

The difference is? Our parents worked hard.
These days people think they can just stream themselves on cam and pay the rent and bills and the world is evil if they can't otherwise.

Middle class use to mean dad worked, mom held down the house, they OWNED the house and took yearly vacations. That's what my dad grew up with.

Money management, inheritance and where they live play a large role.

That's why I'm creating work experience for my kids while they're young so they don't have to go to college and can either make it a business or get a good job with the experience they gained.

I wish they understood WHY. because they tend to vote for exactly the same thing that created that disparity.

The first thing I did with my first pay packet was to buy a house.

Middle class is being wiped out.
