Wellington is selling because it is an American company. Trying to maximize gain or minimize loss from RM depreciation against USD. Having said that, they may believe that RM had had its worst depreciation and if they wait further, they may lose the advantage of currency gain. Just a 2 cent hypothesis.

I have a strong belief that aax would show a positive profit after tax for Q4 2015.

IOI could only make forex gain if they use spot rate forex and not the average forex because I had ballpark calculated spot rate appreciate but average forex depreciates.

As per today transaction not really 3.5X. Well = 4.2m , EPF = 3m. Roughly 20-30% of volume traded.

aax is a 6 times cheaper proxy to airasia, what ever happens in airasia would influence aax ... Now is the case of EPF against Wellington in airasia ; and the mother of all fund is EPF.

nekosan, for unrealised loss - taken into consideration only long term debt.
2016-02-19 08:56 | Report Abuse
nekosan, AirAsia debt is 13 billion. AAX debt is 1.2 billion. Forex exposure on AirAsia debt (forex loss) is 10 times bigger than AAX. Say thank you to me for giving you this information.

That answers why EPF do not mind buying AirAsia shares whose debt is denominated in USD by billions.

There is some possibility for forex gain for AAX Q4 period because spot rate on 1st October - 4.393 and spot rate on 31st December 2015 is 4.2975. RM actually appreciated during this period.

i rest my case on forex , looking forward to the result announcement. By the way I am only of engineering background and not accountancy :))) But , well yeah I do analyse AAX revenue , cost, and profit and I believe the turnaround is there for us to cherish. Cheers.

Goldenshares,
Read carefully.....
Page 14, ASC30 does not specifically.....................it may be appropriate to record amortization ""of debt issuance discount or premium"" using weighted avg exchange rate for that period.
Amortization of debt issuance discount or premium means "interest on debt" - discount premium is interest and that interest is paid within that year (realised loss/gain) - now the original point was not about interest on debt but the amount of initial debt itself (unrealised loss/gain - on paper only).
Refer page 31 - differences between ASC30 and IFRS - differences between US and UK does not include the effect of forex on actual debt.

Functioning currency is RM. When RM goes down vs USD - debt causes forex loss but sales of tickets in USD increase the revenue. Ticket sales is everyday but debt is already fixed ( you dont take new debt everyday)
2016-02-17 12:02 | Report Abuse
sales of tickets is based on average value forex, but debt is based on end of quarter.

Thanks ... have to put it there because in the era of information overload, seller would be overloaded by unnecessary decision based on vague information.

Even though less passengers were carried last year, AAX charged higher average ticket price last year, resulting in higher revenue in accumulative first three Quarters of 2015 compared with accumulative first three Quarters of 2014.

Refering to goldenshares' the star quote, regardless of AAX ferrying 14.6% less passenger in 2015 (compared to 2014), AAX revenue Jan-Sep 2015 (RM2.221 billion) is higher than Jan-Sept 2014 revenue (RM 2.118 billion). - based on audited report in bursamalaysia.com

anyway , load factor fell 7% to 75% and the loss associated to it has been discounted into share price drop in Q1, Q2 and Q3 2015. If AAX announce that it makes a bigger loss after tax in 2015, we have known it all along because we knew that the underlying factors had caused share price to drop from 63 cents to 15 cent and we can accumulate it from the previous Q1, Q2 and Q3 result. What is more interesting to analyse is the Q4 result :) and not the whole year 2015 result.
2016-02-16 21:54 | Report Abuse
analyst007 is right ... some punters got cold feet when they saw load factor declined but it does not necessarily meaning making monetary loss. Of course load factor may be caused by Q1 and Q2 but Q3 and Q4 , load factor had improved. What investor should look is at the quarterly trend. Q4 vs Q3, this would give a clue whether the going would be better in Q12016 and Q22016

Goldenshare, those operating figures does not necessary mean monetary loss or profit. Listen to jjchan, he is right about his post @12.13
2016-02-16 21:46 | Report Abuse
Goldenshares, I went through some accounting standard....for debt and monetary asset, forex is considered at quarter end (or month end or year end) and not average value. This scenario applies to AAX forex loss or gain.

Goldenshares, how did the investors know about the operating fg , if aax has not disclose its profit and loss account information ?
2016-02-16 13:51 | Report Abuse
...if forex uses average, very likely Q42015 - forex loss. But at the moment Q12016 - some forex gain.
2016-02-16 11:02 | Report Abuse
Really Goldenshares ? I thought , it is based on one point of the financial date because forex is actually unrealised loss or gain due to repayment of remaining loan (to be paid in future).
