JPMorgan downgraded it to SELL with a TP of $9.50 citing shrinking market share, disappointing quarterly, and lacks of catalysts.

Plenty time to collect at below 21 this morning. Finally, price movement of this stock find its senses. Cheap for such well run blue-chip, laggard play shall eventually catch up.

First class planter but absolutely incompetent finance/ treasury people they have. Hope they don't bankrupt the firm one day as the result of their reckless so-called hedging activities. To me, it's more like speculating that they're doing. From the 1Q2022 report, do take note of their sizeable USD forward selling contracts. With CPO revisiting 7000, and USD nearing 4.39 ringgit, paper losses in the coming quarter would likely worsen. No wonder, interest earned from their bank deposits dwindled as they'd need to top up on the margins, which pay them NO interests at all on their massive CPO Short contracts as prices continue to surge.

See if EPF will emerge in the afternoon. If not, this stock cum dividend can only sail north!

Non-stop selling by EPF. Looks like by end of this month, as long as there're takers, EPF shall turn itself into a minority shareholder! That's when UP prices can see a sustainable uptrend. Till then...

Another, if I remember correctly when browsing thru their AR, they held over 100 million ringgit worth of bond funds/ unit trusts. They're already starting experiencing capital losses, which they rightfully recognized as bond yields started to rise. Yet, they're still hanging on to such investment, knowing very well bank Negara will surely raise rates in the 2H2022, negative investment return from those bond funds will deepen. Nevertheless, losses from those investment would not be material, just a few million ringgits. But hey, to be prudent, well managed and fully accountable to shareholders, they ought to switch out from the bond funds NOW and move them to strictly Money Market funds with no exposure to instruments having tenors longer than 12 months. Every penny counts!

...and now with the commodity markets adjust upward to the QE or over-printing of the greenback on top of the expected food shortage as the result of the Russian/Ukrainian crisis... They've got to be blind to engage in such mindless forward selling of CPO and in total disregard of shareholders' interests. Even if they want to lock in good prices as they seem fit, under current extraordinary circumstances, they should sell forward in small batches and not go too far out in tenors, 3 months forward should be fine and considered prudent. The current "hedging" they're doing, I'll call it reckless and in total contrast to their conservative and prudent corporate image.

Totally in agreement . No dispute at all on their excellence in operations and the way they manage their plantations. But their finance/ Treasury department is really weak, really remote from sophistication. What a pity! Really hope they can reform in that regards.
2022-03-25 16:28 | Report Abuse
Not really sure they're hedging their risks. It appears they simply take a view on the CPO market believing the CPO prices have gone up excessively, as seen in their comments made in the 3Q2021 notes and AR2021, hence selling forward CPO contracts. That's taking a BET but wrapping it up in the name of hedging. And their decision on such bet obviously had gone very wrong, and the worst thing that they seem NOT to realize they're wrong and continue to thread along the same pathway. As for their refineries, Unitata, Unifuji, if they really want to lock in their purchase prices for raw materials and have a better control on their input costing, they should be LONG the CPO contracts and NOT shorting them, right? Really couldn't see how could they qualify these activities as hedging, instead they brought onto themselves more risks by double-down on SHORTING CPO futures.

Yup, their finance/ treasury people are incompetent entering so called hedging activities without using their brains! Should they never learn and repeat the $140 million losses in shorting futures in their so called hedging activities. These people should be held accountable or be sacked from the jobs!

They're all above 17 years old, said ban doesn't affect them at all. Moreover, such ban is politically correct, and a fashionable thing to do. The relatively more liberal Pakatan, especially DAP will not just vote with their hands but their feets too if called for.

Single market risk, i.e. 50% of its sales revenues come from the USA is unbearable high! If US import ban materializes, it'll be disastrous for Harta. Supermax share price plunged 10% when news of its products banned from the US broke, and US market accounted for only 20% of its sales revenues. Hence, it's highly probable that we may see a limit down in Harta share price should the ban actually come about.

New supply is low? Hell no, they're gushing in, instead. Not just coming from the local front but huge new capacity being built in China and Thailand. Wake up to the real world!

Yup, EPF have initiated aggressive selling on Harta and Kossan. No wonder, Supermax where EPF have no position in stays steady today. Up attributed to epf, down also because of it, the dynamo of our market!

That kind of reports not credible. Just look at the huge plant expansion completed and more capacity expansion planned by not just the local players but those in China and Thailand.
Because the tech content in glove making is low, hence the low barrier of entry, easily pulling in more new players. Don't have to look far, just look at MahSing. From drawing board to actual running of its production lines and getting customer orders, it takes them less than 12 months! The major concern now is that glove supply is growing exponentially whilst demand for it is NOT!
Notwithstanding the above, since Supermax has had a super fantastic 2019 run, maybe at this moment you'll find its major stakeholder takes it easy and enjoys the beachfront Florida condo, which he's well earned. So guys, relax...

InsiderShark People tend to forget the counterparty or paymaster is Laos. It's the poorest nation in Asean, and its avenues to earn foreign exchange is rather limited. If the government has difficulty to generate US$ reserves, that will be time mfcb won't get paid. MFCB has a sound management team it seems, but the exposure to a single customer, that is Laos makes investors to demand a higher discount when buying into this stock. Country risk is real and a red big flag one should not ignore. That very much explains why mfcb can only trade near single digits PE, nothing more!
