We maintain our view that the FBMKLCI is in a new major bull cycle that started in March 2020, after witnessing a downcycle from July 2014 to March 2020. Like previous upcycle that started from October 2008 low of 801.27 and ended higher at 1896.23 in July 2014, we believe the FBMKLCI is in midway of another major upcycle that will propel the benchmark index to a new high (historical high is 1,896.23 and it is possible to rise beyond 2,000 points) before the next general election in 2027. Major catalysts will be the structural reforms that will improve the nation’s financial standing, the huge inflow of foreign direct investments in growth sectors, resilient domestic spending aided by job security and policy measures, and strong corporate earnings growth. These factors should attract greater foreign participation as the US rate cut possibilities rise as the current foreign shareholding of 19.6% is low compared to an average 23.2% between 2014 and 2019 before volatile domestic political conditions eroded investor confidence.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research Thong Pak Leng noted that the key regional indices ended mostly higher, buoyed by the improved US labour market conditions, a weakened dollar and renewed global rate cut optimism.

On the home front, he said the long-term outlook remains positive, driven by strong corporate earnings, cheap valuations, and substantial support from foreign investors.

“While the benchmark index is in a consolidation phase following recent gains, we consider this a positive correction.

“It enables the market to absorb the recent uptrend, presenting an advantageous opportunity for stock accumulation at reduced levels,” he noted.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice-president Thong Pak Leng said he expects buying activities to continue with the upswing in investor sentiment, supported by a steady and strong inflow of foreign funds into the region.

“The increasing daily trading volume signifies a growing appetite for the market and the benchmark index is charging towards the 1,600 psychological level.

Echoing the sentiment, UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors’ designated portfolio manager and head of wealth, research and advisory, Sedek Jantan also said the index may continue its upward trajectory, potentially breaching the psychological barrier of 1,600.

“The KLCI has not yet reached overbought levels, indicating the market is not excessively heated, and there is room for further ascent,” he said.

Even PBB has dropped to current 4.10, its' PE is still 12 times, Dividend yield only 4.62% and its' NTA only 2.82.

So, high price is expensive or low price is cheap??
haha :p

@jeffchan1901

CIMB - EPS 65.46 sen - NTA 6.4066 - Dividend 36 + (special) 7 sen.......PE 10.13

MBB - EPS 77.55 sen - NTA 7.8474 - Dividend 60 sen........PE 12.62

Do the Maths, even price is high, it is still not expensive (comparable with the top 2 valuation)

@Pinky, CIMB is currently cheaper than MBB, lower PE n PB, but its dividend yield is also slightly lower. It seems to have better growth potential. Its CASA is growing stronger than MBB and is expecting NIM growth of about 5 basis point while MBB is expecting a flat or slightly lower NIM for this year

Investors scour the globe for shelter as Wall Street shakes.

Global investors are eyeing European and emerging market assets to protect themselves from further turbulence in US stocks and bonds as stubborn inflation causes bets on the timing of Federal Reserve (Fed) interest rate cuts to be revised.

"Diversification will be a lot more important going forward,"

Investors said the Stoxx appealed because it is stacked with companies in so-called value sectors such as banking and energy which benefit from steady global growth but tend not to suffer when borrowing costs rise.

The general macro outlook is supportive for a cheap, cyclical value market."

Standard Chartered
posted on Thursday a 5.5% rise in its first-quarter pretax profit, beating estimates, as higher interest rates bolstered earnings at the emerging markets-focused lender.

StanChart, which earns most of its revenue in Asia, said statutory pretax profit in the quarter was $1.91 billion. That compared with $1.81 billion a year earlier and the $1.39 billion average of 13 analyst estimates compiled by the bank.

Few years back, I remember someone commented that MBB is only good for its' dividend while the "other one" is better at providing capital gain.
Now, it turned out that MBB is not only good for its' dividend but also its' capital gain.
The "other one" not only gave much lower dividend but also capital loss....its' current price is off 60+ sen from it's recent high 2 years ago.

“Retailers are attracted by a ‘hot’ market but interest on Bursa has mainly been in big-cap stocks, which local institutional investors were buying due to a more positive outlook for the local market following the politically stable environment, higher investments and policy direction. “This has helped the benchmark index rise to a two-year high.

“Retailers are probably waiting for more certainty on a continuation of the trend before returning, but it could be a case when they might get hit by some profit-taking instead,” he said.
