Negative development but not likely to have significant impact to banks. Based on our calculations, the interest foregone for 3 months is <2% of earnings. Even if we assume a higher loan moratorium take-up rate by the B50 segment, maximum impact is <7%. From our analysis, Affin and BIMB would lose most while Maybank and CIMB are the least affected.

tolle: I read comment from EPF....they say they are realigning their portfolio to maximize returns for their members...
....and from their report to Bursa....EPF have net sold PBB of 318M shares from November 2020 to September 2021.

@tolle....PBB got more retail shareholders....while MBB shares are mostly in the hands of PNB, ASB, EPF and old uncles and aunties....thus less knee jerk reaction....haha :p

Buying has been quite good lately, and from report, selling was mainly from EPF, PNB and ASB....if not, price would have been much higher.
I guess they are converting some of their DRP into cash to pay dividend to unit holders....when they are done with, price should be much higher.

@jeffchan....for simple calculation, if your current average price is 8.00....after DRP, your average price should be 7.86 (8.00 minus 14 sen)...but since you are getting the DPR at a 3% discount....so your average price will become 7.859

https://www.nst.com.my/business/2021/09/726785/malaysias-largest-banks-unlikely-see-rising-npls-despite-shrinking-asset
KUALA LUMPUR: The six largest Malaysian banks' non-performing loans (NPLs) will unlikely increase sharply despite the expected deterioration in banks' asset quality, according to Moody's.
In a report today, the credit rating agency said most of the repayment assistance scheme's applicants could have sufficient financial capacity to repay their debt when the programme ended.
"We expect most of the loans under repayment assistance will remain performing when the six-month measure expires,"it said.
"At AMMB Holdings Bhd, Malayan Banking Bhd and RHB Bank Bhd, households whose income are at the top 20 per cent of the population account for more than half of retail loans under the scheme."

We don't know what will be on 21-9-21....how to predict opening... haha...
My prediction on closing was based on the price movement during DRP 20....from announcement date till ex date, the price increase by 39 sen, which is the full dividend amount.
For those who want to buy, I guess it's better to buy now than after X dividend.

Acutually, discount for DRP can go up to 10%....

Got RM1846 discount....can buy nasi lemak for many months....haha.
@tolle....actually for normal investors like us, lower discount and higher price is better (it doesn't make a lot of difference to us)....because if too high a discount, there will be more profit taking by funds like EPF and PNB...resulting more selling pressure.... to us, how the share perform make more difference than the discount.

hi jeffchan, last year I bought into Mahsing (average 0.65), CIMB (average 3.49), Genting (average 3.80) and RHB (average 4.52).
I started buying MBB only March this year after most stocks that I follow have rebounded sharply...and I only find value in MBB then, which is low beta, stable and gives one of highest dividend yield.
Recently, I have taken profit on some of the stocks I bought last year and switch the proceed to add MBB.
If you do home work and read their 5 years plan (Target to achieve EPS of more than 100 sen), MBB not only provide a good steady stream of dividend but also very good potential of high capital appreciation in the next few years.
As a long term value investor, MBB is now my No.1 holding.

@tolle...over here you are the pioneer/sifu...we still need to learn from you.
What I shared is just 2 sen from my observation.
...and I observed from the previous DRP...the closing price on ex date was the same as the closing price on announcement date....meaning during the period, the share price gained 39 sen.

@tolle...based on past record, Bursa only takes 1 to 2 days to give approval. When they apply, I guess DRP price has most likely already been determined.
Announcement of ex date will most likely after obtaining approval from Bursa....probably Tuesday......look at today's trading, there was no "road block".....likely up next week if market is positive.
Cheers....

https://www.nst.com.my/business/2021/09/727736/banks-wont-be-seriously-impacted
Based on our calculations, the interest foregone for three months is less than 2.0 per cent of earnings. Even if we assume a higher loan moratorium take-up rate by the B50 segment, the maximum impact is more than 7.0 per cent," said Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB) analyst Chan Jit Hoong.
Chan said the damage would still lesser compare to the first automatic loan moratorium last year, while banks' financial year 2021 (FY21) profit base could be larger mainly due to lower provisioning levels.
CGS-CIMB Research analyst Winson Ng estimated the impact from the interest exemption would be about RM1.42 billion, which could be regarded as a one-off item.
"This would lower banks' net profits by 5.0 per cent. However, the impact would be smallest for Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) at 3.9 per cent as only 61 per cent of its loans are in Malaysia."
