PETALING JAYA: Malayan Banking Bhd said its loan-to-deposit ratio (LDR), a key measure of the bank’s liquidity, is at a “comfortable” level.
In a statement, the country’s biggest bank said its LDR stood at 94.7% as of end of March, which is much lower than the figure that was quoted by a foreign newswire article last Friday.
“To state that our LDR ratio is approaching 101% is wrong and can lead to misunderstanding among our stakeholders, including our customers, shareholders and regulators,” Maybank group chief financial officer Datuk Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir said.

Feisal also clarified that the group’s liquidity coverage ratio, which measures how sufficiently banking institutions hold high-quality liquid assets to withstand an acute liquidity stress scenario over a 30-day horizon, stood at 134% as at end-March 2017. This was well above the Bank Negara requirement of 80% for the year 2017.

Specter. Be peace with all. Don't be ego. When price is above RM1.80 or above, you will regret again! I think you have regretted many times in your trading for selling too early good stocks?

KUALA LUMPUR: Maybank Investment Research has maintained its “Hold” call and earnings forecast on Tanbun Indah Land Bhd (TILB) but lowered its RNAV-TP to RM1.39 on a lower P/RNAV peg of 0.45x from 0.5x.
“TILB has been focusing on clearing its unsold units under construction thus far. It also intends to sell the Bumiputra lots released under the Raintree Park 1 & 2. This should lead to better take up rates in Raintree Park 1 & 2 (from the current 61% to 89% take-up rates) as sales should pick up in the coming quarters, we believe. The company has locked in RM36.2mil sales in 1Q2017, or 20% of its 2017 sales target.
“Management is confident of achieving its sales target of MYR180m for 2017 supported by RM171mil worth of new property launches and RM249.8mil worth of unsold stocks as at end March 2017.
“Thus far, it has launched two new projects worth RM122.7m in GDV in 1H2017. Elsewhere, Straits Garden commercial lots are >90% leased; however, investment properties’ contribution remains insignificant to TILB (<10%).”
Maybank Research expects TILB's net profit to decline 29% in 2017 and 44% in 2018 due to slower property sales in the last two years.
“We maintain our earnings forecasts but trim our TP to MYR1.39, which is based on a lower 0.45x P/RNAV in view of rising unsold stocks and stiffer competition in both the Penang island and mainland. The stock is backed by 5.5% net yield (2017). TILB has been paying out 40-50% of its net profit as dividend since 2010,” it says.

Bank confident of sustainable profitable growth for rest of year
PETALING JAYA: Malayan Banking Bhd’s unit in Indonesia has posted a 16.3% rise in net profit after tax and minority interests (Patami) to 998.5 billion rupiah (RM320mil) in the first half ended June 30.
PT Bank Maybank Indonesia said net interest margin improved to 5.3% in June 2017 compared with 5% in June 2016.
“We are confident of seeing sustainable profitable growth for the remaining 2017.” president director of Maybank Indonesia Taswin Zakaria said in a statement.
He said the bank’s better performance was supported by an overall improvement in its core banking business.
The bank’s fee-based income during the period under review climbed 9.1% from 1.3 trillion rupiah in June 2016 to 1.5 trillion rupiah in June 2017.
The increase in fee-based income was achieved from bancassurance, loan recovery, remittance and other services provided by the bank.
Global banking loans saw a strong loan growth of 18.9% to 27.3 trillion rupiah in June 2017 as a number of key deals were realised, benefiting from the re-aligning and re-profiling of its portfolio.
The bank’s Community Financial Services (CFS) non-retail loans, which comprise of micro, small and medium enterprises and business banking, grew by 2.0% to 50.1 trillion rupiah, while CFS retail banking loans decreased by 6.4% to 42.5 trillion rupiah in June 2017 due to a slowdown in consumer spending.
Asset quality at Maybank Indonesia remained solid, with consolidated non-performing loan level remaining at 3.6% (gross) and 2.4% (net) as of June 2017 compared with the previous corresponding period.
Provision expenses was reduced by 15.7% to 835.8 billion rupiah in June 2017 from 991.1 billion rupiah in June 2016.
The bank, however, said loan quality remained a concern as businesses are still impacted by the continued slow movement in the economy.
“We continued to show strong improvement at the operating level for the first six months amidst the challenging market condition,” Taswin said.
“Our strong first semester results clearly reflects the steady improvement in our core business performance as strong fundamentals, rigorous risk management practices as well as a disciplined approach towards pricing and growth are well in place,” he said.
Meanwhile, president commissioner Maybank Indonesia and group president & CEO of Maybank, Datuk Abdul Farid Alias said he is pleased with the bank’s performance, despite the challenging market condition.

It will give 50% net profit as div this financial year (with DRS). Last financial year they claimed it was not allowed to give more by Bank Negara. But with Dividend Reinvestment Plan, they can do that as more cash can be reserved.

We can only make more money when stock price is low. Not chasing high. It is low now due to suspecting one fund keeps selling to get cash. Furthermore, the market is not popular with property stock now. Buy and keep.

BUY on breakout with a target price of RM1.72 and stop-loss at RM1.37. The uptick in the DMI and the increase in trading volume suggest buying momentum is set to continue in the near term. We expect the stock to continue trending up towards the breakout level of RM1.48 in the current upleg. A breakout above this level would extend the uptrend towards the previous high of RM1.62, the psychological resistance level of RM1.62 and our target at RM1.72.
Expected Timeframe: 2 weeks to 2 months.
