KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed mixed today on mild profit-taking, dealers said.
However, the losses were limited by gains in finance stocks and selected heavyweights.
The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) finished at 1,871.66 points, up 4.09 points, after fluctuating between 1,864.98 points and 1,871.66
points throughout the day.
Petronas Dagangan, which headed the top gainers' list, jumped 82 sen to RM24.50. Public Bank surged 42 sen to RM20.48, Aeon Credit Services soared 26 sen to RM15.18 and MNRB Holdings advanced 25 sen to RM4.03.
Market breadth was negative as losers led gainers by 395 to 349, with 340 counters unchanged, 535 untraded and 33 others suspended.
Volume fell to 1.37 billion shares worth RM2.07 billion from 1.59 billion shares worth RM1.71 billion recorded on Tuesday.
Hong Leong Investment Bank Research said a resumption of the previous rally to retest the all-time high of 1,890 points achieved on May 19 and 1,900 points
psychological barrier will materialise.
"We will see this happen if the FBM KLCI is able to stage a decisive breakout above the immediate support-turned resistance levels of near 1,870 points and 1,876 points," it said in a note.
Among other heavyweights, Maybank and TNB were unchanged at RM9.94 and RM12.16 respectively, Axiata eased seven sen to RM6.82 and CIMB added three sen to RM7.36.
Of the actives, Iris rose 3.5 sen to 44.5 sen, Silk Holdings increased six sen to 91 sen while MAS, Metronic and PDZ Holdings were flat at 17.5 sen, 10.5 sen and 15.5 sen, respectively.
The Finance Index surged 111.28 points to 17,221.47 points.
The Plantation Index shed 31.05 points to 9,113.05 points and the Industrial Index eased 4.24 points to 3,179.45 points.
The FBM Emas Index was 20.1 points better at 12,929.59 points, FBMT100 Index gained 21.84 points to 12,579.89 points, FBM 70 increased 1.99 points to
14,013.04 points and the Ace Index surged 91.73 points to 6,639.25 points.
Main Market volume narrowed to 999.67 million units worth RM1.95 billion from yesterday's 1.24 billion units worth RM1.64 billion.
Turnover on the ACE market increased to 309.84 million shares valued at RM107.62 million from 236.68 million shares valued at RM49.08 million on Tuesday.
Warrants fell to 42.61 million units worth RM8.31 million from 80.71 million units worth RM19.86 million previously.
Consumer products accounted for 83.03 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 117.68 million, construction 75.72 million, trade and services 427.39 million, technology 36.98 million, infrastructure 66.43 million, SPAC 25.91 million, finance 54.43 million, hotels 2.93 million, properties 81.02 million, plantations 19.11 million, mining 57,000, REITs 8.91 million and closed/fund 12,000.-- Bernama
