KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed firmer against the US dollar yesterday on further profit-taking but was mixed to lower against other major currencies, dealers said.
At 5pm, the local currency was quoted at 3.4770/4800 against the greenback from 3.4820/4840 previously.
"Players covered some short positions and opted to lock in profits from the greenback following its recent surge as crude oil prices rebounded," a trader said.
The local unit fell against the Singapore dollar to 2.6469/6508 from Tuesday's 2.6437/6460 and depreciated against the yen to 2.9182/9212 from 2.9051/9075 on Tuesday.
The local currency also eased against the Euro to 4.3080/3121 from Tuesday's 4.3006/3041.
It, however, rose against the British pound to 5.4537/4598 from yesterday's 5.4549/4594. Bernama
