Yet another week of mauling by Mr. Market, who has transformed from a bull last year to a bear this year.
From a random sample of stocks from various industries, most share prices fell from last week.
From last week, TOPGLOV fell from RM1.01 to RM0.99, TENAGA fell from RM8 to RM7.92, TSH fell from RM1.06 to RM1.03, TAKAFUL fell from RM3.16 to RM3.15, but TWRREIT rose from RM0.445 to RM0.475.
If you haven't bought, you can buy now, or wait first.
If you have bought, do you cut your losses short to keep cash or swap with another stock/asset?
Or should you hold for long-term?

CONCLUSION:
Most Malaysian stocks randomly selected from various industries showed a positive return after holding for 20 years.
Of course, there are some which suffered terrible losses over the course of 20 years too.
One need not hold for 20 years, as long as one holds for the longer-term & chooses a higher price to sell in future.
It is a different story for holding for 3 years, as more stocks suffered losses.
One can either interpret it as:
1) Buying & holding does not work. OR
2) 3 year holding period is "not long enough". OR
3) The economy was better in 2019 than 2021, which generally means corporate earnings are higher & stock valuations are higher. (pre-Covid vs post-Covid)
IMHO, not all stock investment need to result in heavy losses, provided you can wait & wait & wait for a better time to sell.
Note: All stock prices are derived from Kenanga Charts, which is supposed to be ex-dividends, bonus, rights, etc. It may not be super accurate but you get the rough idea of this exercise.

Thanks CynicalCyan for your valuable information. But I notice a lot of companines which owned by good corp. or genuine businessman cannot maintain their good track record for 5 years. Maybe due to quick changing business world for eg. Landmarks which backed by Genting.

If your entry cost was low enough and you’re not likely to see that price again, then buy and hold makes sense. If not, better get some profit off the table and see from there
