DPM: Unwise to impose travel ban on PTPTN defaulters

KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said restricting travel abroad against borrowers who fail to repay loans from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) is not appropriate.

She said the government has yet to make any decision on the matter and the proposed restriction should be reviewed.

"We haven’t made any decision. When did we discuss it? PTPTN has provided space and opportunities for the students to pursue higher studies but there are a handful who did not service their PTPTN study loans (after completing their studies).

“So rolling money is tough for PTPTN but to impose travel restrictions is not a wise thing to do. It needs to be reviewed, after all we too protested the travel restrictions before,” she said.

The Member of Parliament for Pandan told this to reporters after attending a breaking of fast event for disabled people organised by the Pandan Indah Constituency Service Centre and Selangor Ehsan Ummah Welfare Organisation here today.

PTPTN chairman, Wan Saiful Wan Jan was reported earlier to have said that re-imposing the travel ban on errant borrowers was among the ideas submitted as a result of PTPTN’s ongoing public engagement sessions.

Meanwhile, in Jerlun, Wan Saiful urged the public to channel feedback to PTPTN via the right channel namely Kertas Konsultasi Rakyat (KKR) which is provided on its official website.

Speaking to reporters after a PTPTN Ramadan programme, he said PTPTN could only act on feedback provided via that platform as it did not pay heed to what was said about the corporation on social media platforms.

However, he said the people were to free to have their say (about PTPTN) on Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp or other mediums. — Bernama

Why not ? A debt is a debt especially when you signed up promising to repay the debt but defaulted knowingly.

Borrowed money, but don't want to pay. Tell this to banks also, that it is not appropriate for banks to blacklist borrowers.

bersatu is trash. 100% of bersatu members are from umno. the party was formed less than two years before GE 14, which is on 8th september 2016. the reason is to continue umno's policy if they win. that's why these ex umno people refuses to join pkr or amanah, instead they create their own party. furthermore their party is identical to umno, from 100% bumiputera malay down to their party colour which is red, same like umno. look at 90:10 racist matriculation policy, continuation of AP to crony, bumiputera contractor policy, deny to recognize UEC, and many other policy that are championed by umno.

in GE 14, although still a new party but they want to contest alot of seats. thus taking away many seats from pkr and amanah. in GE 14, they contested 52 seats but only won 12. means they lose in 40 seats. what a shame.

unsurprisingly, mahathir put 6 as minister and another 6 as deputy minister. it means that all ppbm mp are elected into the government except one mp who is replaced by marzuki who is made senator. https://ms.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabinet_Malaysia

they also got mb position in kedah, johor, and perak although they are the minority.
in perak, dap won 18 state seats while ppbm only won 1. but mahathir insist that their sole adun must be made as mb of perak. same with johor and kedah.

currently most of their minister are sleeping and we never heard about them since they were elected as ministers. let alone their deputy ministers. total silent, not a single plan to develop our country, simply take gaji buta.
but then when they speak, they will utter nonsense like black shoe drama, flying car minister who is also pro lynas. rina harun who say getting datuk seri title is important for her to serve the people, but until recently i never heard about her anymore. few days ago she came out from her 'castle' to defend mazlee.

You know why? The ones who are good enough have left. My advice is: be good enough to do so.

kiddo, PH need to earn a 2nd term. 1 term won't be enough for reform. Is better to kick the can down the lane rather than facing it. When u take an action, u need to know how many will be affected by it. After that you X(times) the number of this actions which u have taken, u can estimate how much support you will lose. Previous actions have caused support base to shaken, if do more, sure out in next election. If I'm PH i would focus on the 2nd term rather than getting the money. So you think getting money back is good, but have you thought of how much the country will lose if BN is back in biz. Yeah, you get money back , clean the balance sheet, BN will come back and spend it for you.

I'm surprised there are so many fool in term of politics, they dont know what politics is about, they only think of running a country is like running a company

Dear Heavenly Punter,
Don't waste your time with quack accountant. He has nothing to offer/contribute but everything to spoil your day/life.

Work hard to learn all the in and out in your selected work field and always ready to take in a bigger responsibility/workload. There are plenty of opportunity for those who is ready.

Thank you
