PETALING JAYA: PAS continues trying to be the peacemaker in the row between Umno and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) as it calls for both sides to be friendly towards each other.

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said they all need to solve a common problem, which is disunity among the ummah.

"This is our unity agenda together so we shouldn't be hostile towards our friends. Instead, we need to strengthen our bonds. Let's not be the reason for discord. Have patience and make peace," he posted on Facebook on Monday (March 29).

Abdul Hadi had earlier delivered the same message at the PAS Federal Territory liaison meeting on Sunday (March 28).

The Marang MP's statement came after several Umno delegates called for the relationship between PAS and Umno under Muafakat Nasional to be reassessed at the 2020 Umno general assembly over the weekend.

He also avoided questions from the media after attending the general assembly on Sunday at Umno's invitation.

At the assembly, Umno also decided to end its cooperation with Perikatan Nasional lynchpin party Bersatu in the 15th general election causing PAS to be caught between its commitment to the Muafakat charter and being part of Perikatan.

In his presidential address, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that he hoped the Muafakat pact would continue as being on the same footing was advantageous to both parties.

"We are confident that this collaboration between us will receive support in the country's political landscape and open opportunities for Umno and Barisan Nasional to return to lead the nation," he said.
