KUALA LUMPUR: Johor recorded the highest number of Covid-19 hospital admissions on Wednesday after 402 patients in the state were hospitalised for further treatment.
The southern state also has the most number of critical cases coping on ventilator support (20 cases) currently.
According to the Health Ministry's CovidNow portal, active cases in the state have been rising steadily, from 10,652 cases on Feb 4 to 13,668 on Wednesday.
Malaysia, up to Wednesday, had 94,514 active cases and 385 active clusters.
States in East Malaysia, particularly, has witnessed a sharp spike in active cases since Feb 1 although no fatalities occurred in Sarawak or Labuan during this period.
Active cases in Sabah surged from 6,306 on Feb 1 to 14,808 on Feb 9, while in Sarawak, the numbers rose from 113 to 536 within the same period.
Labuan, meanwhile, saw a jump in active cases, from 21 on Feb 3 to 155 on Feb 9. The island, as of Wednesday, also has the highest infectivity rate (Rt) in the country at 1.94.
However, in the past two weeks, Putrajaya reported the highest incidents of Covid-19 infections with 94 new cases detected for every 10,000 people in the federal territory.
Within the same period, Perak reported the most number of deaths, with 80 deaths occurring on average for every 10 million people in the state.
Nine more deaths occurred on Wednesday, including two brought-in-dead cases. A total of 32,065 people have succumbed to the virus since the pandemic hit Malaysia in March 2020.
The country, at present, has 147 cases undergoing treatment at ICU wards, including 79 that are placed on ventilator support.
Except Negri Sembilan and Labuan, all other states currently have Covid-19 patients in ICU wards as well as critical cases placed on ventilator support.
On vaccination progress, Malaysia has dispensed 12,769,610 booster shots so far, including 149,361 doses that were administered on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the National Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids) that kicked off on Feb 3 has administered the first vaccine dose to 1.7 per cent of children aged between five and 11 years old in the country.
This includes 4.6 per cent of children in Klang Valley, Sarawak (4.1 per cent), Melaka (1.4 per cent), Negri Sembilan and Sabah (0.9 per cent each), Labuan (0.3 per cent), Kedah and Perlis (0.2 per cent each) as well as Pahang, Perak and Penang (0.1 per cent each).
