NIBONG TEBAL: Voters in Sungai Bakap have a lot to lose if they choose the opposition in the by-election.

Pakatan Harapan's Sungai Bakap by-election director Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid said he was confident that voters in Sungai Bakap were wise enough to return the seat back to PH.

He said, after all, the state seat had been Barisan Nasional and thereafter PH's stronghold all this while, except for the last state elections when it fell to Perikatan Nasional's Nor Zamri Latiff.

Nor Zamri's death on May 24 triggered the by-election.

Mohamad, who is Penang deputy chief minister, said one of the things voters stood to lose was allocation.

"The opposition assemblymen are given RM60,000 annually for infrastructure purposes while government backbenchers get RM300,000 and state executive council members RM400,000.

"With the allocation we are given, we can use it for our people. As such, voters in Sungai Bakap should vote for us to enjoy this benefit," he said when met at Kelab Media Mutiara Pulau Pinang's operations centre here this evening.

Mohamad said a PH elected representative would also serve as the bridge between the people of Sungai Bakap and the state and federal governments and agencies.

"It will be in sync. Having an opposition assemblyman is a loss. Thirdly, our candidate (Dr Joohari Ariffin) is also highly capable," he added.

Mohamad also hit out at the 10 opposition elected representatives in the state, saying that they had not raised any questions on rural development and entrepreneurship during the last state legislative assembly sitting.

He said all they talked about was zakat, mud from the Penang Silicon Island project site and solid waste.

"Nothing was asked on rural development and entrepreneurship. So, what voice are they bringing?

"So, if you ask me, the voters stand to lose if they vote in PN," he added.
