PUTRAJAYA: Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil today told the opposition not to portray themselves as heroes on the issue involving the six former Bersatu members of parliament.

This, he said, was because the Bersatu MPs had opposed amendments to the anti-party hopping law way back in 2022.

He said Bersatu had only themselves to blame when Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said that the six MPs could keep their seats.

He said Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, vice-president Datuk Radzi Jidin and secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin were among those who were against the amendment.

"Now, they want to be heroes in the Dewan Rakyat questioning the speaker's decision that was made according to the Constitution.

"Muhyiddin had the opportunity to amend the Bersatu Constitution like Umno and DAP did before the general election.

"If they want to blame anyone, it should be Muhyiddin, Hamzah and Radzi. Do not try to be a hero now," he told reporters during his weekly press conference today.

Fahmi said this in response to a question on criticisms levelled at Johari, following his decision on the six Bersatu MPs whose membership in the party was terminated.

Yesterday, Johari in the Dewan Rakyat said he was not changing his mind over his decision on the six parliamentary seats held by the former Bersatu members.

Johari said he had conducted a thorough study on the matter before arriving at a decision on the status of the six MPs.

"When I receive anything that is given to me, I will make sure that I study everything.

"In fact, I have read the statements on the amendment of Article 49A (of the Federal Constitution)."

He said this after Bersatu called for a point of order to seek further clarification from Johari over the decision on the status of the party's six former members.
