KLUANG: Perikatan Nasional (PN) will soon issue an official statement regarding the draft memorandum of understanding (MOU) on allocations for all opposition MPs, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Perikatan chairman and Bersatu president said that several discussions have taken place, involving all party MPs.

“We will make an important announcement in the coming days. Our meetings have found the MOU to be quite unusual, and it has presented us with significant challenges.

“It is not entirely aimed to help the people; but regardless, there will be an official statement (soon),” he said.

He said this when met by reporters at the nomination centre for the Mahkota by-election at Dewan Tunku Ibrahim Ismail here on Saturday (Feb 14).

Muhyiddin also said that before the announcement is made, another meeting with Perikatan MPs and the party’s central leadership would be held.

“Some of the MPs are clearly unhappy with the terms of the MOU,” he added.

On Sept 3, Bernama reported that Perikatan chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the government had set seven conditions for the Opposition, including the requirement that they support the government until the end of the 15th Parliament in order to receive allocations.

Takiyuddin also claimed that the draft MOU did not specify any allocation amounts.

On July 9, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the issue of allocations for Opposition MPs should not be difficult to resolve.
