TEMERLOH: PAS is expected to amend its constitution to allow non-Muslims to become members of the party.

Its information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari confirmed that the motion for the amendments will be tabled by Saturday (Sept 14) during the 70th PAS muktamar held in Kerdau here.

The party’s Mursyidul Am (spiritual leader) Datuk Hashim Jasin reportedly said the proposed amendments would be tabled at the assembly for debate and passage.

"The constitutional amendment involves several points...because non-Muslims have been asking to join the party as regular members, but the party only accepts Muslims as members.

"That’s why we have the DHPP (the PAS Non-Muslim Supporters Congress)...this is what we want to amend, to allow non-Muslims to be associate members," Hashim was reported as saying.

One of PAS' membership conditions is that an applicant must be a Muslim.

Ahmad Fadhli also said six motions, including a "surprising" one, will be tabled before the muktamar closes on Sunday (Sept 15).

"These motions concern international issues, politics, and the economy.

"I am not at liberty to divulge the details of the motions, but God willing, there will be a little surprise for the media and Malaysians who follow our party's development," he said.
