KUALA LUMPUR: There is much potential to further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Malaysia and Ukraine.

Charge d'affaires at the Ukrainian Embassy in Malaysia Denys Mykhailiuk said both nations have developed partnerships in areas such as trade, education, technology and agriculture.

"I am confident that with continued dialogue and collaboration, we will unlock new opportunities for growth and innovation, benefiting businesses and industries in both our nations.

"Together, we can build stronger economic bridges that will enhance prosperity for Ukraine and Malaysia alike," he said in his speech at the Ukraine - Malaysia friendship night today.

Denys said the relationship extends beyond diplomacy and trade, underpinned by people-to-people connections.

"Cultural exchange is a cornerstone of this friendship, helping to bring the people of Ukraine and Malaysia closer together.

"Through arts, music, and educational initiatives, we foster mutual understanding and respect, enriching both our societies," he said.

He said Ukraine remains resolute in seeking a peaceful resolution to the ongoing war through diplomatic means.

"Despite the hardships of war, the Ukrainian people are resilient and we are determined to rebuild and flourish once more.

"We are two peaceful nations, and we were attacked. Sadly, some wield weapons not for defence but for conquest.

"We hope for a future where peace prevails, and that conflict is a distant memory, not only in Ukraine but in Palestine, Sudan, Myanmar and wherever tensions and disputes arise," he said.

Meanwhile, he also expressed Ukraine's gratitude for the global support and solidarity, including from Malaysia.

"We continue to defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity and remain committed to achieving peace and stability.

"The steadfast support of our partners in international forums, along with Malaysia's advocacy for rules-based world order, has been invaluable," he said.

Denys hopes that Malaysia will persist in supporting Ukraine's pursuit of peace and join global efforts to end the conflict.
