These complaints continue despite ICAP delivering an impressive performance on a consistent basis. So, what is really going on here ? Without all this interference, ICAP's share price would have been trading at a nice premium to its NAV by now, just like it did before City of London's persistent purchases.
>>>>>
Not logical. Why should a closed end fund trades at a premium to its NAV?
The question more relevant to iCap is: why is iCap trading at a HUGE discount to its NAV? Why is this discount so much more than other closed end funds?
Is City of London the cause of this huge discount to iCap’s NAV? Personally, I have difficulty agreeing with this statement. In my opinion, many have been “burnt” in iCap than profited over the last 15 years. Few willing buyers (even though deeply undervalued) with many trapped “sellers/owners” in iCap.
What will be the catalyst that can unlock the value of iCap?
Perhaps another reason for the huge discount is the PERCEPTION that this fund’s return maybe lacklustre like the recent past decade. It did trade at a huge premium (irrationally so) its in early years soon after its launch. Why? Because the return on capital or its growth in NAV was very high.

When the share price of a stock starts to move upwards, the smart money is already in the game and the big money has entered pushing up its price. When the dumb money appears, the smart money leaves, and soon the big money follows. The price of a stock climbs up slowly and falls quickly.

Investors can avoid a lot of bad investments if they analyze a company's operating cash flow. It's not hard to do, but you'll need to do it, because the talking heads and analysts are all too often focused on EPS.

Trap 1: Focusing too much on return on equity (ROE)
The much-vaunted ROE seems pure: take net profits, divide by shareholders' equity, and you see how efficient a business is with investors' money. ROE is Warren Buffet's favourite ratio, and executive pay is sometimes tied to it.
When it's a trap: When it's enhanced by debt. Borrowing funds to make more money for shareholders isn't necessarily evil, and is sometimes beneficial. But investors strictly watching ROE will miss the additional risk taken by a management team 'gearing up' to meet performance targets.
Protect yourself: Add return on invested capital (ROIC) to your arsenal. Using the same principle as ROE, ROIC essentially compares after-tax operating profits to both debt and equity capital, and thus provides a better measure of operational success that can't be inflated by a financing decision.

In essence, it was not demonstrated that the High Court plainly erred in arriving at this decision that
ICAP's claim should be dismissed. The Court of Appeal concludes that the appeal has no merits in law
or fact and accordingly dismisses the appeal
The minority judgment of the Court of Appeal found in favour of ICAP on the following grounds:-
.
.
.
.
As a result of the above, the Board of Directors of ICAP will seek to apply for leave to appeal to the Federal
Court against the majority judgment of the Court of Appeal.
The Company will make further announcement on the developments of the above matter as and when is
necessary.
Comment: What a waste of time, money and effort. Focus on growing the net asset value of iCap. Stop appealing.

How much is my intrinsic value for Coastal?
2023-04-15 17:59 | Report Abuse
SSLee
Coastal has a strong balance sheet. 23% of its business is financed by debts and liabilities.
Bank borrowings are manageable. Bank interest cover is adequate.
It is profitable, generating good free cash flow.
It is earning high returns on its equities, almost 15%.
Its investments into the oil rig and gas processing businesses have been successful and highly profitable, 15% ROE.
It is well placed to take advantage of more joint ventures in Brazil. The management has guided positively in the latestAnnual Prospectus on these.
As long as the crude oil price remains high, Coastal will be well placed to grow further its business and profits.
Of course, growth requires allocation of more of its free cash into new investments. Dividends for shareholders may not appear anytime soon.
The only concern I have is its account receivables are rather too high for comfort. There must be a reason the management allows this; afterall, they too have a hand in this decision.

Product diversification remains the Group’s long-term strategy to diversify its revenue base to reduce its dependency on TWS and other lifestyle electronic products which are relatively short in their product lifecycle. With such plan in mind, the Group has been *working toward obtaining IATF 16949 certification which is the global technical specification and quality management standard for the automotive industry*. With this certification, the Group hopes to secure more orders from new customers in making the component parts for the *automotive industry*.
As the Group continues to navigate through macroeconomic headwinds and work to reduce costs across the Group, we have undertaken VSS to optimise our workforce to reduce costs in the long term and also adjustments to remuneration taking into account of the VSS. These changes are designed to impact our executive level more significantly and will help support the investments and overall workforce needed to accelerate our transformation and achieve our long-term strategy.
The Board will continue to exercise caution but expects the overall prospect for the Group remain challenging arising from the global economic uncertainties.

What type of damages are available for patent infringement?
The two main types of damages awarded in patent infringement actions are reasonable royalties and lost profits. (However, the Patent Act does not limit damages to certain types, and a judge can award other types of damages that may be appropriate under the facts of the case.)
