Khazanah: No MAS-AirAsia X merger


KUALA LUMPUR: Khazanah Nasional Bhd, the major shareholder of the ailing Malaysian Airline System Bhd (MAS), has dismissed media reports speculating about a merger with AirAsia X Bhd.

Khazanah, the government's strategic investment fund, had on Thursday dismissed the reports as "unfounded and speculative".

"We also remind and urge all parties to not speculate on the restructuring of MAS, including potential mergers, de-listing and other restructuring options," it said.

Khazanah categorically stated a comprehensive review of all restructuring options was being undertaken and evaluated.

"The resolution of this review will be made after due consideration, and after respective approvals from the relevant parties and authorities, including the approval of the special shareholder, Minister of Finance, Incorporated.

"The outcome will be announced in due course, within the timeframe indicated previously," it said.

Quite normal to dump warrant ( for pocket $) cos warrant is just a sweeter for a mother share. Nothing unusual.

Management prefers mother for controlling purposes.

The mh17 shot down was not MAS's fault. Our national airline should not be penalized by mass sell down. I think in times like this, as Malaysians we should be supportive. Hope the management can put forward a good plan to restructure and reinvent itself.

Malaysia Airlines in focus on restructuring hopes

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) was in focus, with the shares rising to a high of 23 sen in very active trade on Tuesday, as market speculated it would present its restructuring plan this week.

At 5pm, the FBM KLCI was up 2.72 points to 1,871.36. Turnover was 2.56 billion shares valued at RM2.07bil. There were 471 gainers, 383 losers and 320 counters unchanged.

MAS added three sen to 23 sen - the highest since July 16 -- with 291.61 million shares done.

Bloomberg reported MAS could present its turnaround plan this week to its major shareholder Khazanah Nasional after its shares were recently hammered after its flight MH17 was shot down in Ukraine. Khazanah owns 69.4% of MAS.
