It's better to invest in assets that generate income AND capital appreciation

Supermax is saying hello to RM5++
2021-02-16 09:54 | Report Abuse
If u invest in a profitable business and it distributes dividends to you, that is a certain income and gain.
Capital appreciation will only happen when market participants help push up the share price.
Just like property, some (especially high priced ones) "got value, but no market"

Betul, insurers love ILPs because no matter the investment go up or down, they still earn the management fees.
Unlike traditional participating life insurance where their returns depend on the investment returns.

Yea, 2020-Q4 might see profits, but then 2021-Q1 will be red again.
Again, we are buying Genting's future, NOT the past.
Unless you are talking about a barely solvent company, yes, in that case 2 or 3 quarters of red will send it into PN17 la hahahaha
But Genting's cash pile is still huge, they will ride through this.

Glove counters may have wonderfuly EPS this year and next year.
But how about when the Covid-19 scare is over? EPS will suddenly drop to pre-Covid levels.
Are you sure that you can sell and run away before the rest of the market does?
I never see myself as super lucky in market timing, I would rather now play this game. I invest in long-term profitable businesses.
That is why I always say that gloves play is exactly like a game of musical chairs now. Who run last, who fall down hard.

@Stocksafeplayer yea, I go to the glove chatrooms here in i3 and see, absolutely disgusting the way they chat. Worse than pasar malam ah bengs quarelling.

Investing in shares is to buy the FUTURE profits and dividends of the company, NOT to buy the past and possibly current of the company.
You think you buy their X% of shares and then the company give you all the X% of their current net assets meh? It doesn't work that way.
Even super dooper slow Malaysia is foreseeing to complete vaccination by year end or early 2022. Genting may be in red for maybe 2-3 quarters more. After that? To the sky it flies.
My 2 sen worth of opinion. :)

General = you buy insurance for 1 year, after 1 year you claim nothing, your premium is considered "burnt"
