Hostile or non hostile, our air space is controlled by DCA and RMAF. Any aircraft straying into our air space is to be identified, reported and action taken.
Military radars will 'squawk' the aircraft transponder for identification. Sometimes IFFs are used. (Identification friendly or foe). In this case there was no responds and should be taken as 'probable' hostile as aircraft are not allowed to switch off transponders, fly into 'no fly zone' as a jet can shoot down any unidentified aircraft.

leno, there is no proof that it was a suicide mission, if he wanted to do so, he would have crashed it enroute to Beijing. Pilots do fly very low or high to get the attention of people on the ground, hinting that something is wrong without alerting hijackers.
Saturn, there is no 'defend wrong doing like radar blip' but that's the single most important clue/evidence that was not passed on. Someone didn't do their job properly. Dreamhunter, the radar could not identify its a friendly aircraft either. Transponder allows an air defence radar to identify an aircraft and if it is switched off, it a sign of bad intentions. Just like one driving around town with no number plates.
The big blip on radar will give an indication its a big aircraft, not necessary a commercial aircraft, maybe a bomber as commercial aircraft have flight paths and 'gates' to enter and leave.
Right thing to do is to alert duty officer while attempts to establish communications with aircraft is a must. Interceptors are then tasked to 'intercept', identify and escort the aircraft to nearest safe landing area for investigation.
Maybe there was some cover up to save some people's face, but lets not speculate and lets hope proper investigation is carried out, leaving no stone unturned, and hopefully, yes, hopefully all departments will get their act together for the sake of the country.

wm83, c2 is a call warrant, not a company warrant issued by Maybank. You cannot convert c2 into Maybank shares. Get someone to teach you about call warrants before you even think of touching them.

sbsoo, from the time dividend is declared until X date, there is plenty of time for new investors to jump in and enjoy the DRP. As for dilution of shares, if you remember last year, Maybank had to put out private placement of 300Mil shares to comply with Tier 3 banking rules or something like that. Rather than making a call for right issues or private placements to comply with banking laws, the company is rewarding its loyal investors with DRP.
As a matter of fact CIMB has copied MBB in DRP for the last dividend, so has MBSB.

Icon, it was actually very frustrating holding on to these shares, no movement for years. Many other counters I bought at below 75 sens, eg Latitude, now at 2.50 mark. Best buy was probably Maybank OR in Apr 2009, when Maybank dropped from RM15 to RM4. Subscribed for Maybank at total cost of 3.85. In 5 yrs, with dividend, DRP and capital appreciation, it has gone more than 3 times what I paid. That's the value of investing.

Bought this counter maybe 8 years ago. Subscribed to its rights at 50sen with free warrants in Sep 2007. It was struggling at 50 to 70sen range for a good many years. Dividend back then was also pathetic few sens. 20,000 shares with 4,000 rights and 12,000 free warrants cost 14K back then. Now its worth approx 50K? Long wait, but eventually, all is good.

sbsoo, main reason for huge drp is the 27sen dividend that may be converted under drp. Previously its been mostly below 20sen.

As a long term investor in Maybank, I would like to see the price drop, as it would give me more shares from the DRP. Dividend is paid based on EPS and not market price of Maybank, so with consistent dividend payout of 70% eps, cheaper share price will enable me to subscribe to more shares in the DRP.

sbsoo, 5.4% is after taking the dividend into account. Average price of 9.95, drp is 9.20, what is the %? So if the present price is 9.51, dividend is 31sen, its 9.20 before discount. Would drp still be 9.20? I have been collecting drp from the first back in 2010. BTW, they are allowed to give up to 10% discount for drps.

Would be happy if TM can climb to 6.00 and remain there. Though it has proposed dividend of 16.3 sen, its EPS has dropped. Those who bought into TM CZ will make a bundle if TM goes to 6.00 and beyond.

Engtex have been buying back its shares from 80 sen to 1.20. It can either cancel the treasury shares thus reducing number of shares issued (increase in EPS) or in this case sell it in open market to realize gains, which will be reflected in its P&L, thus increase the EPS as well. Is that positive or negative news? Would you sell if you have made 100% profit or hold on for more? You judge for yourself.

wm83, your c2 ex price is 10.50, its difficult to foresee Maybank at 10.50 unless aggressive buying by foreign institutions like in June to August last year.
sbsoo, the drp of 9.20 was when Maybank was at average price of 9.90. DRPs are usually at a discount of 8 to 10% of 5 day weighted volume average. The previous drp was at 8.80 when 5 day average was at 9.60.

sbsoo, you are right. They are fixing the 5 day average price for the purpose of DRP. This drop always happens before DRP. Won't be surprised if DRP will be at RM 9.00. Maybank should be back to 10 after the price fixing, most probably by tomorrow.

MBB claims to have an independent BOD, not politically influenced. That was during the Wahid days. Today was just reporting of result and declaration of dividend. He was expected to answer critics about the sales of 6% BII shares below purchase price, and also about the BNM ruling. Nothing mentioned.
