HSI is very boring for now. Any good recommendation of share or warrants?

if you do not play these 2 days, also no problem. We have a few more important data this Friday:
Friday morning -- China manufacturing PMIs
Friday night -- U.S. nonfarm payrolls & ISM manufacturing PMI

should have bought H when HSI failed to hold on to 20,700. Don't think it will drop much... maybe between 20550-20600

region, I based my opinion on theory. But if both C17 and C19 offer the same upside in percentage in real life, then go ahead and buy C19. But I want to stress that it is SAFE to play those warrants that are going to expire within a month. You do not have to worry about it at all if you play short term. Proven. Like I said I played C14 on the second last day. Another thing is those warrants with expiry date within a month usually move more.

Shanghai market dropping now, hope will bring HSI together...

region, if you are playing for short term, it is not as bad as you think. It is actually a lot safer than we think. Here is some research that I have done.
I posted this a few weeks ago:
as you know, warrants lose value faster when they approach expiry date. How bad is it? Here is an example.
HSI-C14, expiry on 30 March 2016, exercise price 20,200. Assuming HSI future constant at 20,200, and constant Implied Volatility at 31.4%
March 8 RM0.352
March 9 RM0.344
March 10 RM0.336
March 11 RM0.328
March 12 RM0.319
March 13 RM0.311
March 14 RM0.302
March 15 RM0.292
March 16 RM0.283
March 17 RM0.273
March 18 RM0.262
March 19 RM0.252
March 20 RM0.240
March 21 RM0.228
March 22 RM0.215
March 23 RM0.202
March 24 RM0.187
March 25 RM0.171
March 26 RM0.153
March 27 RM0.133
March 28 RM0.109
March 29 RM0.077
March 30 0
HSI-C14 loses about 1 sen a day with 2-3 weeks remaining, and loses about 2-3 sen a day with 1 week remaining. Therefore it is more suitable for intra day trade as it approaches expiry date. (Update: The last time I played C14? The day before the last trading day)

region, HSI-C17 is more expensive but it is better because its exercise price is nearer to the current HSI future, so will move more

Citing increased risks with global financial and economic conditions, along with widespread volatility in oil prices, Yellen reiterated on Tuesday that the U.S. central bank should exercise extreme caution with the timing of its next rate hike. Yellen's comments contradict a wave of hawkish remarks from several of her colleagues last week

The U.S. economy remains on track for a gradual path of rate hikes and fears over the impact of a slowing global economy and bouts of financial volatility are overdone, San Francisco Federal Reserve President John Williams said on Tuesday.

I suspect some of the buyers do not understand how to calculate the price of index-based warrants
Price of warrants at expiry = ( Settlement Price - Exercise Level) / Exercise Ratio x FX Rate
e.g C14
Settlement Price will be determined on March 30th
FX Rate is exchange rate HK$/MYR which is around 0.5. SUSPECT SOME BUYERS ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS
Price of warrants at expiry = ( Settlement Price - 20,200) / 900 x 0.5

According to the daily summary below, even after 5 Fed officials' suggestion that the next rate hike may come in April, "but that sentiment remains at odds with the fed funds futures market, which sees only a 14.0% chance of a rate hike at the upcoming policy meeting. The market sees a 40.0% chance of a hike in June while expectations for a hike in July are running at 51.0%."

I know the market maker is not around tomorrow and next Monday because of holidays, but is trading of HSI warrants still on the next 2 days? I believe so but I can not recall.
2016-03-24 20:33 | Report Abuse
yea missed the boat. Looks like the drop is mainly due to interest rate anticipation that it could come as early as April. All 5 Fed officials said the same thing (one of them is a voting member). Instead of up down up down, we may see down trend.

rchi, what do you mean "something is wrong wth genting"? Is it too dangerous to buy Genting warrants?

since oil rebound, hope HSI future will rebound again in the afternoon
2016-03-24 10:59 | Report Abuse
not playing H, fear that it will not drop a lot since oil price rebound
2016-03-24 09:28 | Report Abuse
I suspect HSI will drop first and then rebound. Not buying anything right now
2016-03-24 09:23 | Report Abuse
HSI future is -250 or -1.24%, I just think it is way too much that I suspect will rebound

The exercise price of HT is 19,400. Will earn something if the index future is below 19,400 when expiry.
2016-03-24 09:10 | Report Abuse
HSI-HT 19,400 28 Apr 16
HSI-HU 20,800 28 Apr 16
HSI-HT is out-of-money right now, in fact the difference is 10,000 points, so its price will not move as fast as HU. HT will move faster the closer it is towards 19,400. HU is in-the-money right now.

"U.S. stocks fell mildly on Wednesday as oil prices crashed below $40 a barrel and hawkish comments from a host of Federal Reserve policymakers on the increased possibility for multiple interest rate hikes this year..."
so we have to monitor oil price. So far oil price drops a little
Dow dropped 0.45%, so assuming same percentage, HSI future will drop to 25500. If it drop too much, maybe will buy call warrant instead

Ruggedfix, I am afraid so. Usually people do not hold the warrants too long, maybe less than an hour, a few hours, the next day, or a few days. Hope you take some time to study the call/put warrants, I am sure you can earn your money back.

rchi, Genting warrants are the ones that I regret the most selling early. Genting-WA was lower than RM1 when you first recommended. C26 was less than 12 sen

yup, this C14 is more for intra-day trades at the moment
