What is there to shout about? So far, i just make RM20K++ profit from Gadang. Not much.

My regret is that most of my portfolio is heavily concentrated in GOB + SymLife. Both are still making losses. Last time, when Gadang was trading at RM1.30, i thought of switching out to buy more Gadang.

But then, being an accountant, once you switched out - unrealised losses become realised losses, right?

Best to keep it as what it is. Somemore, the storyline for GOB + SymLife is still very much intact. In such cases, patience is very much required.

@ JN88, for Symlife, if you factor the Star Resi alone (and exclude the Sungai Long) land, then the share price is RM1.20 for Star Resi alone.

Star Resi- break even after selling off 2nd Tower and
Signature Retail - break even after selling 70%. Per Datuk, Signature Retial is now 55% sold.

Datuk is good . Can assemble good deals. Latest one is MAKSAK deal at Jalan Cheras. The deal is really below market price.

Kok Onn is right. LANF IS KING.But he missed one important poiny. LAND BOUGHT SUBSTANTIALLY BELOW MARKET PRICE IS THE REAL KING.

Anyway - Gadang aside, what do you think of the chances of an accountant (somewhere 32) breaking into the investing community?
Like paperplane2, managing funds?
I think of becoming an analyst - writing research reports - like the ones at JF Apex which write about Gadang.
How much is an entry level analyst and what is the pay?
I don;t mind doing CFA also...

Hahaha....I am with kai8994 on this one....project margin is more important than revenue...the bottom line being EPS earnings per share is quite important in pushing the share price up....more revenue does not equate to more profits....with the huge cash pile from the Johor project....they can afford to be more selective in their construction jobs.

I mean... When you want financing to build damein, you raised it from the market. Now, damein is sold for a handsome price, there is no dividends but the proceeds is used to buy a few pieces of land from DL (if the article from Focus Malaysia is anything to go by). So, for the shareholders who subscribe to the rights, how can they be rewarded if there is no dividends?

Chankp7010, the issue with this company is one of confidence ...this company is treated as a proxy - a front - for you know who. This may not be a bad thing because the JV with Lembaga Getah shows connection matters. But then, if there is no dividends (never mind the special dividends) declared from the proceedsof disposal of Da'mein, then,how are shareholders going to be rewarded?

yup - used the "golden" opportunity to sapu the shares when the price drop to RM1.20...it help a great deal to lower the average cost for Gadang...

even buying at the current price of RM1.40, will not feel the pain as it will result in an average cost of just RM1.37.

But obviously, i would like to wait until the price drops to RM1.30 to RM1.35 range - to sapu more....

Patiently waiting....cannot deny this is a good counter.

THe next counter on my radar screen is Tambun + KimLun.

actually, the desmond lim connection is not a bad thing...for a relatively obscure company like GOB to get such good terms on Pavillion Embassy - shows the connection is very important...
i am just afraid that GOB may end up to be a front to dump junk assets....

the article by Focus Malaysia is very interesting - the proceeds from Da'mein disposal will be used to buy Desmond Lim's privately held land....

Da'mein is financed by rights issue + bank borrowings. For the shareholders who have contributed to rights, screw them...you owe them nothing. For bank borrowings, well, you need to pay the bankers or else the bankers will screw you. Now, GOB disposed Da'mein to Pavillion REIT and after paying off the bankers - and NOT paying any dividends - they have effectively exchanged Da'mein for a few pieces of land from Desmond Lim.

Now, i am just wondering...if i am desmond lim - i will keep the best to myself. I will cash in the deals on the fringe....so, what i have done is that i exchanged the crown jewel in the family (Da'mein) for a few pieces of land that i have....if this is the case, it seems GOB shareholders have been taken for a ride...

the story will be different if a portion of the proceeds are
- distributed back to shareholders as dividends...
- pay off debt and become a net cash company, and
- used as working capital to finance Batu Kawan and JV with Lembaga Getah....
