Ok with fa. But seems like value traps is ever present in bursa. Plentitude, kfima, bla bla bla....any antidote for value trap? Buy cheap, it can go cheaper, then what?
Yes, FA sometimes got wrong in assessment and got trapped in value trap situations. As I have mentioned, there is no stock God in the world.
To avoid value traps,
1) Avoid sunset industry
2) Do not buy high on cyclical businesses, buy them at the low point instead. Most things are cyclical.
3) Pay attention to management if they are shareholders friendly, credible
4) Look at stability of earnings and cash flows, instead of one time off events
5) Be aware of structural change in the industry
6) etc.

Hehe. I bought Plenitude at 3.50 & Kfima at 2.20 about 3 years ago or so. Followed him blindly after enrolling his program and got trapped until today. Nah bu heh
Nah bu heh? What is that?
Why you so lucky got trapped blindly following me in two stocks I shared in i3investor, when I have shared hundreds? Well, I am not stock God who won't get anything wrong in any shares I wrote. I don't think stock God exists at all in this world.
But Abang, jangan lah tipu helah. You enrolled in my programme and got trapped? I have never recommended in buying Kfima or Plenitude in my stock pick service, have I? They were in my portfolios which I shared in i3investor 5 years ago. With the high dividends received each year,I doubt one loses any money for Kfima. Plenitude, the last I checked, the loss is less than 10%.
So, Abang, why you so unlucky one? Some more telling lies.
By the way, the business of the twp companies have some obvious structural changes. That is part of FA. In FA, investing in a stock doesn't mean you hold it forever, does it?

How is the performances of your Hevea, Tguan, Kuchai?
This post discussed about FA, TA and BS. Does it discuss about Hevea, Tguan and Kuchai? Okay never mind, here are my response.
I first discussed about Hevea in i3investor on December 8 2013 in the link below,
http://klse.i3investor.com/blogs/stock_pick_challenge_2013_2h/40360.jsp
The share price was at a preadjusted price 95 sen, or an adjusted price of about 23 sen (please see Yahoo Finance). It went up to a high of closed to RM1.75, or 8 times the price when it was first discussed. It closed at 90 sen today on 13/2/18, down by a lot from its peak. I sold it at RM1.65 exactly 4 months ago on 13/10/2017, as I needed money to buy other stocks. Thanks for your concern.
I mentioned about Thong Guan in the link below,
https://klse.i3investor.com/blogs/kcchongnz/104956.jsp
I mentioned that a course participant recommended this stock some time in September 2014. It was selling at an adjusted price of about RM2.15 then. Three and a half years later on today, it closed at RM3.57, still a decent return of 66%, not bad at all. Thanks for your concern too. It actually went up to close to RM5.00 a few months ago. Unfortunately, I did not sell it as I don’t see any fundamental change in its business and its growth story.
I talk about Kuchai as a negative enterprise value investing strategy in the link below four years ago,
https://klse.i3investor.com/blogs/kcchongnz/45296.jsp
It was trading at RM1.20 then. I ought some and sold for some profit. Can’t remember how much did I sell.
Today, Kuchai is trading at RM2.15 now. If I were to keep it until today, the profit for this 4 years is 95 sen, or 79%, or a compounded growth of 16%, definitely over-performed the broad market by extremely wide margin.
So, anything wrong with Kuchai? Fundamentally, I see it has improved, improved by a lot more.

Do you see Coldeye talking or posting nonsense in i3investor?

“损人利已,不为。
“利人不利已,可为。
“利人利己,应为。”
Me: Yes, the above principles in life were instilled to us as a good person. That I would expect an ordinary respected person in the society at such an age, and already with such wealth will do. But unfortunately, that was just an expectation, but the outcome is just completely the opposite.
Not only that. When someone tried to educate the public on some useful things which would save the naïve and newbies in avoiding the pitfalls in investing, he ridiculed him.
Sad, isn’t it?
“I always believe that share investment is not a zero sum game. Your win is someone loses is gambling. Share investment supposed to be a win win for all. Am I too idealistic? Or is this too much to ask for?”
Me: Fully agree with you. And that is what I am propagating; find good companies and invest for long term. Everybody will profit from its growth in the long-term.
However, not everybody thinks like us looking at long-term, although they tell you to do so. Many prefer to have big gain in the short-term, and the only way to do is manipulating, of course only when you have the means to do it; with huge monetary resources, buy up the shares first, write articles to promote it relentlessly, leverage on the “reputation” one has, encourage leverage so that more buying, tell you to hold for long-term, and then Boom, dump.
And then what to say?
“Why you so stupid?”
“Why you so greedy”?
What was said was actually true too.
Only Chinese educated people like you and me knows about Szuma Chien, and the Tai San.

From the analysts perspective, Sendai wasn't a mistake....The Company did report good profits for 3 consecutive quarters and the stock run up from a low of 50 sen ( at the commencement of buying ) to a high of $ 1.50........Plenty of opportunities to make money in the time period.
ME: LET US FORGET ABOUT HOW IT LOST MONEY, HUDREDS OF MILLIONS THE PAST YEAR AND FOCUS ON IT PROFIT LAST 3 QUARTERS.
MIND TO SHARE WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY GOOD PROFIT? ARE THEY REALLY "PROFIT"?
HOW COME THE FREE CASH FLOWS FOR THE 3 QUARTERS ARE NEGATIVE? SHOW US THE MONEY!
HOW COME THE CLIENT OWED THEM MORE THAN RM1 IN WORK DONE? YES, BILLIONS, TEN FIGURES! MADE RM60 MILLION, BUT OWED BY CLIENT MORE THAN RM1 BILLION? ANY LOGIC?
SOME MORE OWED BANKS MORE THAN RM1 BILLION, TEN FIGURES.
HOW? MADE RM60M FAKE MONEY AND OWES BANKS RM 1 BILLION?
HOW HOW HOW?
PLEASE READ MY ANALYSIS HERE,
https://klse.i3investor.com/blogs/kcchongnz/132084.jsp
I ALSO LIKE TO READ YOUR ANALYSIS, IF ANY.
The Company mistake is to engage an IB to do a private placement which is very odd as it does not seem to have an end date. A good private placement should be a quick affair , not a drawn out affair lasting 1 year. Those who didn't like the private placement sold out their shares.
ME: OH, YOU ARE CLEVER THAN INVESTMENT BANKERS AH? WHY DIDN'T SENDAI, YOUR GOOD FRIEND ENGAGE YOU INSTEAD TO CARRY OUT THE WORK OF HOW TO CLEAR ITS BILLIONS OF DEBTS? I AM SURE YOU CAN WITH YOUR DYNAMITES.

In the two years I have been here, KYY has been completely honest and has also increased his wealth by tens of millions.

ME: I AM HAPPY WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF MY PORTFOLIO, MAY BE IN THE REGION OF 25% THE LAST ONE YEAR. NOT TOO BAD. NOT MUCH FEE. IT IS JUST PEANUT, BUT I FOUND JOY IN EDUCATING THE PUBLIC THE RIGHT WAY OF INVESTING. FOR PLP PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO LIKE TO PLP THE RICH, YOU WON'T UNDERSTAND APPRECIATE THE SATISFACTION I HAVE HAD.

Not saying you are small people but saying KYY is great investor, he sailang his way to greatness.....the really great make you feel that you, too , can become great.
ME: NO COMMENT ON THIS EITHER. FOR ME, THERE IS NOTHING GREAT HAVING A LOT OF MONEY. I AM NOT LIKE YOU, PLP ON THE RICH PEOPLE, NO MATTER HOW HE OBTAINED HIS WEALTH.
They say, aim high.....yeah, aim high. Its good to aim high.
ME: i JUST REMEMBER YOU ALSO ASKED PEOPLE IN I3INVESTOR TO BE GREAT IN SENDAI. I AM SURE YOU ALSO HAD 'SAILANG" ON IT TOO, HAVEN'T YOU? IF NOT I THINK YOU ARE ALSO CAN BE CLASSIFIED AS THE MOST "HONEST" PERSON IN THE WORLD TOO.

Nobody cares if you use margin finance or not. And nobody gives a damn if you become filthy rich using margin finance.
But when you relentlessly boasting and propagating that to the general public, which you don't give a damn how damaging it is to the general public, it is a very irresponsible act, in my opinion.
Hengyuan from RM19 to RM12 is just one of the instances. There were many more.

Dear Kcchongnz,
Ignore the naysayers, your pragmatic approach towards investing is invaluable. Fully agree with every point you have made.
Timing is everything. You can buy a good company but at a wrong price.
Hence with Fair Value Investing and diversification, your risk is spread out. It is like buying many houses at auction prices.
Keep up the good work!

Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.
And I pride myself for propagating the right things to the community. If I can do something good to the society, like what I am trying to debunk some investment myths here, whether I earn anything or not, it doesn't matter. I will be happier doing so. Dear KC Chong,
As the year came to a closed and a new year began, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the sharing of your investment knowledge with the i3 community. I believe many people have benefited from your teaching of Fundamental value investing (FVI) I included. It have been a good learning curve for me as I start to look into i3 and learned from all the Sifus in i3 for that Holy Grill or Magic Formula for successful investment. Please allow me to summaries what I have learned:
Form KC Chong: FVI where you need to read the financial report, know the business, do the calculation, (EPS, ROE, Profit margin, PE ratio, P/B, P/cash flow, Dividend yield, EV/Ebit and etc) take care of the downside and the upside will take care of itself.
Sslee, I am glad your have learned something from me. This is what I am trying to do in i3investor, already for more than 5 years.
I spent a lot of time doing this, had work, but at least I know some people, like you, benefited. It is satisfying.

You know I have seen this type of comment many times. One time I even read about "Those who did not buy (stock) are low class investor".
It makes me don't know want to laugh or cry.
You know there are a thousand stocks listed in Bursa, why I must include HY and Petronm? I am happy to have some stocks like Tong Herr, Uchitech, Magni-Tech, SKP Resources, Padini, Scientex, KESM etc a few years ago.
I am never sad if not having HY or Petronm. Why should I?

There are close to a thousand stocks in Bursa, we don't have to swing for every pitch.
One can't just decide if the cash flows are good or not by looking at a quarter or two. Cash flows are so lumpy that you have to look at a number of years.
WHAT? such naïve comments from kcchongnz. KC, i respected you much, but please, PetronM has soon few years of good records. not just this few quarters.

I think you better have a better understanding of what systematic risk is in investing.

Why no PetronM, hengyuan? Both cashflows good.....I wonder how the stock picked?
There are close to a thousand stocks in Bursa, we don't have to swing for every pitch.
One can't just decide if the cash flows are good or not by looking at a quarter or two. Cash flows are so lumpy that you have to look at a number of years.

Diversification may not work in a bearish market. The overall market is bearish, so even if idiosyncratic risk can be reduced, your portfolio will get affected by systematic risk in a bearish market.
Systematic risk is present in all market, worse in a bear market. Diversification works better in a bear market as some stocks, especially those hot stocks will tank. With a diversified portfolio, at least the damage on the portfolio is not as bad.

Even if you check his past records, you will not know how he has made profit. Suppose someone invested USD 10,000 in 5 stocks, say, Stock A (USD 7000), STock B (USD 1000), Stock C (USD 500), Stock D (USD 500) and Stock E (USD 1000).
Then, what matters most is the return of Stock A
You are absolutely right.
However, that is not the point. We don't really care if the investor makes a lot of money betting on ten stocks and made hefty returns from two stocks, and the rest lose money. One can claim whatever he likes.
Someone makes a lot of money, whatever means he uses, it is his own business. He is not going to share with you, is he?
The point is should one follow blindly that someone who said I have made so much money from a few stocks but whose records showed he only got 20% of the time right, just because he said he made so much money by doing so?

Unabsorbed reinvestment allowances (unrecognised DTA) is part of a tax incentives..
It will act like normal unutilised tax losses to be deducted againts the taxable profit for the quarter or year. Hope this clarifies.
Thanks. RM600 mil Unabsorbed Reinvestment Allowances would mean Hengyuan can register another 600 mil gross up x 100 / 24 = 2.4 billion profit that will not be taxable? Hope i am right

To all the retiree's out there... Mr.C, Paul and others... who are NOT financial savvy, my humble advice is for you to engage a proper fund manager to manage your funds in getting a return that is suitable to your risk preference.
Please go through the List of Capital Markets Services Licence holders for Fund Management issued by Securities Commission to ensure that your are given proper financial advice as to your requirements.
Personally, i use Phillip Capital to manage my retirement fund. Why you might ask? Becoz of Mr. Ang Kok Heng who is the Chief Investment Officer.. you can google him for his credentials.
I kind of agree with the above; if you have little knowledge and experience in investing, get a fund manager to do for you, preferably those with CMSRL.
But bear in mind fund managers and institutional investors make up the bulk of players in the market, and hence on average, a fund manager's performance will be average. In fact, an average fund manager will be likely to give you below average result because of fees. That is the nature of the industry.
Your costs determines your return in the long term. Know and understand your costs, which in my opinion, few appreciate this.
There are indeed some good fund managers out there who consistently outperform, but you can find out their performance through the funds they manage.

If it is so difficult for many people to make money, then you shouldn't put your money in it.
But this value investor want to play with fire, they will tell you this Ponzi has value, people do not buying into this Ponzi that no longer work. If there is choice, one is easy to make money for everyone, the other is that make money in the expense of other people, I will choose the former. this Ponzi is created by the old generation and expecting the younger generation to foot their bills, fat hope!! They will make their new system and obsolete the old buggy system.
Investopedia defines Ponzi scheme as "a form of fraud in which belief in the success of a non-existent enterprise is fostered by the payment of quick returns to the first investors from money invested by later investors."
So which is closely resemble a Ponzi scheme; the Bitcoin thingy you have been harping and harping and harping, or my value investing?

In the first place, dont go creating your own acronyms graham will be turning in his grave go bless his soul. secondly, everything you ever need on fundamental analysis is freely available on the internet, and there are free lunches, just not from you. so say so, and dont go around saying there isnt and proclaiming yourself to be saviour
"acronyms"? What "acronyms" in this article you are referring to? Please elaborate.
"graham will be turning in his grave"? Why? What has this article to do with Graham?
"secondly, everything you ever need on fundamental analysis is freely available on the internet"
True true true, and that was what I said in the article as appended below too, didn't I?
"There are a lot of resources and help out there. My service is just one of them."
"and there are free lunches, just not from you."
Maybe you are right above. Hence I never "proclaiming yourself to be saviour", did I?
Do you provide "free lunch"? Are you a "savior"?
I don't think so, but I think even you do, I doubt anybody will take your "free lunch", or look at you as their "savior".

makes a killing when right
does not get killed when wrong.
can the talk well chap do that?
In investing, I don't have to "kill" people, meaning to make others bankrupt in order to build long-term wealth. Why do you have to do that?
And why do I have to endure the possibility of "being killed" in a fun thing like investing?
I know you have "kill" many by asking them to follow you to sailang Sendaid, and with margin finance, a few months ago when it was trading at RM1.20+.
You said you "not get killed". Not sure about that but at least how injured you are?
Another question is what "killing" have you made recently? Haven't heard anything like that from you.
So no "killing" but got injured and bruise everywhere?
So that was how effective your BS is?
