RIGHT TIME: Slowdown, soft oil prices a good opportunity for acquisitions
DAGANG NeXchange Bhd (DneX) is looking at buying more stakes in oil and gas (O&G) assets that are already in production to increase its revenue streams.
The move is in line with its goal of having an equal revenue composition between its information and communication technology (ICT) and energy divisions next year.
Executive deputy chairman Datuk Samsul Husin said the economic slowdown and soft oil prices provide a good opportunity to buy the assets due to their attractive prices.
“This is the right time for acquisitions because of the low prices of O&G assets. We have low gearing and cash reserves, so I think it is time pick up an asset,” he told Business Times yesterday.
“We are asset light and knowledge heavy, so we are looking for assets that are already producing oil.”
When asked if there is any ongoing acquisition, Samsul said: “We are looking at opportunities but nothing specific at the moment.”
Earlier this year, DNeX acquired the entire equity in OGPC Sdn Bhd and a 52 per cent equity in OGPC O&G Sdn Bhd for RM170 million.
Samsul said DNeX is also focusing on developing and uplifting the performance of existing assets to remain sustainable.
“We are not in control of the (oil) price, so we will monitor and minimise the cost of operations at a level which would provide profitability to our company.
“We will stay afloat these few years and see if the oil price is going to rebound.
“Due to our cost-saving strategy, we managed to get a big jump in net profit by almost RM90 million (cumulative quarter-on-quarter) as reported in our latest financial results,” he added.
On its ICT division, Samsul said the company is looking to expand to Asean as well as the Middle East in trade facilitation solutions.
Its ICT division has been providing stable cash flows to the company. In its 2017 financial year, the ICT segment contributed 97 per cent of the group revenue.

Will newly launched Alibaba e-Hub & eWTP uses Dnex ePCO / ePermit / uCustoms / e-Declare / e-Manifest...and others E-services?? After all these E-trades still need to go thru proper gov channels/approvals........
Even MITI AP ePermit and SIRIM eOP start 1st April 2017 have to use Dnex systems......looks like Alibaba e-hub in Malaysia still have to go thru Dnex systems..
