Lol at the joker who said AirAsia is a small cap company. It's literally one of the largest 5 companies outside the KLCI. If it can double the share price in the next few years it will be in the KLCI.

Noah, I'm just saying it could face difficulties in the short term while waiting for the new mill/plant to come online. Not this immediate quarter, but the one after that.
Anyway, I invest based on a margin of safety. I've read Benjamin Graham/Seth Klarman/Warren Buffet. This is a promising company, which is why it is on my radar, but it is not "cheap" enough for me to buy with an adequate margin of safety. As the best value investors would say, the immediate aim of an investment is the safeguard of your capital.
Prolexus is still on my watchlist and is a buy when it retraces to RM1.36. That's all. I monitor a basket of stocks so when one door closes, another opens, no biggie.

Aiya, little little kecut already. How like this? You think everyday go up up up? Today some major players took advantage of the high open to take profit. These are players that think AA is overvalued in the short term (maybe true). But just you wait, my opinion is AA will continue growing. India so much potential. PH and ID are going to be listed soon, and hopefully have stronger performances. Vietnam new opening. If you are long-term, you are no worried drop a few sen. Long term trend is what you want, and the AA macros look good.

Depends. I think profits could decline leading to fall in share price in the short term. Good long term though. I missed the boat at 1.36, won't come in unless the stock reaches that low again.

Margin of safety exists. Macros are looking up. Perhaps this is the bottom.

Still, this will likely lead to irrational selling, just wait, and if margin of safety presents itself go in and $$$.

Huat Huat, can't be based on nothing. I also aim for TP RM1.20, but it has to be displayed in the quarterly results first. Otherwise this is just setting us up for disappointment in the short term.
Today at work I was browsing The Star and saw Armada was in the Top 5 most traded, at RM0.82, I almost got a heart attack, haha!

What's changed? Fundamentals have me worried. Did someone get some inside info? Kraken is no closer to finishing...in fact it is probably going to be delayed to May. No new contracts are due to be awarded. Perhaps it's higher OSV/OMS utilization? Or just irrational market? I am tempted to sell at RM0.81...but I think I'll just ride with it till year's end at least and then make a decision to carry on or jump ship.

@Leesk, what's the logic of what you're saying? PHB owns 55% of PGRL and 68% of PRA. Why you no point keep PHB? If anything PHB is undervalued relative to PGRL and PRA when you do the maths - i.e. take 55% and 68% of the market value respectively for those two entities, at the very least PHB should be worth that much. But we still need a catalyst here.

Guys, I want to ask about the Balance Sheet. For example, for the Property, Plant & Equipment entry of RM3,048,652,000 per the latest quarterly report...are these assets owned/attributable to Parkson Holdings Bhd? Or is it just the sum of assets held by the SG and HK listed entities? In which case, that number would be wrong, won't it, since Parkson MY only holds ~60% stake in those two companies.
Please clarify.

To me I don't think you can read too much into their outlook statement. Management will always like to overperform, so they set modest expectations. Initially I will be alarmed when management say things like this, but often the next quarter or next full FY they do very well.
They just want to keep expectations in check. I mean read most of the outlook in quarterly reports for other companies...they are extremely conservative.

I mean topline revenue should grow at least in tandem with the growth of the rubber glove industry locally. Second, from next year (or July this year, not sure if they meant CY or FY) onwards the automation will start to kick in. So this means increasing revenue and increasing profit margins. Both will combine to give a much stronger net profit growth.
Management also is looking to expand to chemicals manufacturing and packaging, and they will soon be maximising everything possible out of the current business focus.
So, in all honesty, if you're in for the long term this looks like a possible multi-bagger.

It's still a bit crazy to me. Start building in 2017 and have it ready in 2018. Can meh? I thought it will need to take time to build and scale up. Or maybe I am thinking of too high tech stuff (like Tesla's plants). So how long would a factory like they are building in Vietnam or the mill in Malaysia take to make normally? Is 6 mths - 1 year a reasonable timeframe to get everything built and ready for production?

To me, I personally find Lii Hen to have best valuations in the furniture stocks, but betting on LiiHen is betting against the Ringgit, and I'm not prepared to do that.
2017-03-27 21:34 | Report Abuse
My dear friends, what will become of Liihen once Trump passes the border tax? Don't say he couldn't pass healthcare, tax also fail. They are two totally different things. Taxes are more serious and have a wider support among Republicans.
Hope you have thought that perhaps due to Liihen's 90% export to US the share valuation is adjusting accordingly downwards. Of course, if the border tax is not passed good for all of you.
Not just that, but Ringgit has strong fundamentals. The worst is over. By year end it should go to RM4.10-4.30. Maybe this is another factor contributing to a selloff in many furniture counters?
Always look at the macros as well and see if it is worth taking a bet.

The surge in Malaysian small caps over the last few months may be reason enough to avoid buying many of them now.
So says Gan Eng Peng, head of equities at Affin Hwang Asset Management Bhd., citing an 18 percent gain in the the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Small Cap Index since November. Stocks in the measure are up more than twice as much as those in the large-cap benchmark, as a government plan to support the sector coincided with an emerging-market rally.
“We’re always on the lookout for ideas which are fresh, turnaround situations and deep value plays,” said Gan, whose Asia ex-Japan small and midcap fund has returned 34 percent over the past year to beat 96 percent of its peers. “With the recent run in the index, this is getting harder to come by.”
Prime Minister Najib Razak’s budget pledge in October to establish a 3 billion ringgit ($678 million) fund to invest in small and mid-sized companies and promote research on them stirred interest in the sector. Malaysia as a whole has benefited as faster economic growth and rebounding commodity prices helped push developing-nation equities to the highest levels since mid-2015.
Foreign investors are returning, pumping $1 billion into Malaysian stocks so far this year, following a three-year run of outflows in which they pulled $7.7 billion. Credit Suisse Group AG went overweight on the country’s stocks last week, calling it “perhaps the most unloved mainstream emerging market.” The Swiss lender cited positive earnings revisions, economic forecasts and an undervalued ringgit among reasons for its optimism.
The small-cap gauge dropped 0.2 percent in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, retreating from its highest close since April 2015 on Thursday, while the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI Index declined 0.1 percent.
Seed money for the small-cap fund will come from government-linked companies, according to the budget. Some smaller companies aren’t receiving the attention they deserve, and an independent research scheme will start next quarter to address this, Ranjit Ajit Singh, chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia, said at a March 9 briefing.
Boosting Demand
While the 3 billion ringgit fund isn’t that big, the government’s willingness to support the sector is improving sentiment and boosting demand from institutional investors, said Ang Kok Heng, chief investment officer at Phillip Capital Management Bhd. in Kuala Lumpur.
While this has pushed some small and midcaps “beyond our targets,” there are still good buys out there, said Ang. These include JAKS Resources Bhd., Gabungan AQRS Bhd., Ekovest Bhd. and ViTrox Corp. Bhd., he said.
The surge has also pushed up the 12-month price-to-earnings ratio on the small-caps gauge to 11.6, near the highest level since August 2014. That’s still well below the ratio of 16.2 for the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index, which comprises the biggest 30 companies.
The government plans are contributing to the small-cap surge, along with the earnings turnaround and the cheap ringgit, said Jason Chong, chief investment officer at Manulife Asset Management’s Malaysian unit in Kuala Lumpur.
While the planned fund and research scheme might aid small caps in the future, it’s not driving gains at the moment, said Affin Hwang Asset’s Gan. Small caps are more sensitive to growth expectations and are also benefiting from “the global return of animal spirits in risk markets,” he said.

Just to make it clear, I don't necessarily think that the owners are the perpetrators of a pump and dump. They merely realize that the stock is way, way overvalued and see a good avenue to make a ton of money. So why not? I would do it too if the stupid market greatly ran my stock value up for no good reason.

Guys, are you guys crazy or what? Armada operates on fixed rate charter for the FPSO. Price of oil at USD40 or USD80 or USD120 makes no difference to its revenue from the FPSO segment. The OMS segment meanwhile is almost effectively dead and it comes from a very low base in 2016, so again no relative "loss" of revenues from that segment.
That's one of the beauty of Bumi Armada. It DID NOT jump up in January when the rest of the oil counters jumped up due to the rebound in crude oil prices. It traded at 0.60-0.65 for the first 1.5 months of the year. It only made a decisive move upwards when Armada Olombendo reached first oil, and then again when Armada Kraken reached the destination in the North Sea.
This should tell you that the fortunes of Bumi Armada lie in its execution of the FPSO leases, and not with the global crude oil prices. There is definitely some correlation, but less so compared to other oil counters and for a good reason.

"The Kraken FPSO arrived in the North Sea in early January, having completed its journey from Singapore within the scheduled number of days. The vessel was berthed in Rotterdam for post voyage inspection and final preparations prior to sailing. The FPSO then sailed to the Kraken field once good weather conditions were anticipated for the hook up of the STP buoy mooring system to the FPSO. This was completed and a full rotation test performed so that by mid-February the vessel was on station and securely moored. The risers and umbilicals have now been successfully pulled in. Work is continuing in the turret area, as is topsides commissioning work. Following completion of the turret area work, subsea commissioning will commence. Handover of FPSO systems from commissioning to operations continues."
