Lifting d visa requirements for chinese tourists will give a huge boost to tourist numbers from china, travel agents here r telling. They observed that merely exempting d visa fee had done little in attracting d chinese.Thailand,Indonesia have waived visa requirements for d chinese n this has not encouraged a wave of ppl smuggling, visa free policy would mutually beneficial for both malaysia n China.

We hv inflated cabinet ministers n deputy ministers. They hv to think hw to promote toirism, if they cant think then learn from Thailand.Recently i was there its amazing, we need entusiatic ppl with proper mind set. Cant they think, we r going bust in petroleum n palm oil n its very serious.Tourism can bring enormous revenue. Our country is small n if enforcement officers do d their job, why fear of negative happenings. We see in d media drugs being sighted in Klia. Why! I dont see any trained dogs to sniff d culprits why! why! why!. It takes donkey years for govt to decide to issue free Visa for chinese tourists upon arival at Klia. Are all these difficult, i feel disgusted. U can go to any corner of d world, there is no country like M'sia n to put it right, we need brains which can think like S'pore otherwise ????

Ya! factor 1) MH370 agreed. 2) China is a vast country n to get VISA hv to travel long distance n a big hassel, its a fact. For example when India came out wt new law that thump print extra must be taken (biometric) to get d visa, ppl start cursing, imagine ppl from outstation to travel all d way to KL n visa get on d following day, so there was amendments hence visa free is a great relief for chinese tourists n decline in ringgit has its pros n cons....now u decide u want Iris or not ?

PETALING JAYA: Doing away with visa requirements for China nationals will top the agenda in a meeting between the travel industry and Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) president Hamzah Rahmat said this proposal would be included in a memorandum the body will submit to the Prime Minister on Aug 27.

It will be the first meeting between MATTA and the Prime Minister.

Hamzah said an earlier proposal to allow visa-free travel for China tour groups had yet to be implemented.

“It’s been almost two months since the announcement but we have not heard anything more about it,” he said.

In June, the Cabinet decided on visa exemption for China tour groups on a trial basis but no date was fixed.

Hamzah said the local tourist industry had been hard-hit with a 30% drop in business this year, adding that this could have been averted if the proposal had been implemented.

“We would have been seeing more Chinese tourists spending their money here,” he said.

Hamzah said MATTA would also propose that the Government implement an online visa application system similar to that in Australia and for multiple visa entry applications.

“Cutting red tape to allow ease of travel will allow Malaysia to compete with other countries for the tourism dollars,” he said.

For the upcoming MATTA Fair to be held from Sept 4 to 6 at PWTC, Hamzah said the body had asked the national tourism boards taking part to include goodies or better deals to offset the weakening value of the ringgit.

The national boards of Indonesia, Hong Kong, Turkey and Taiwan will be among those coming for the fair.

Hamzah said there would be more emphasis on domestic tourism this time.

KUCHING: Despite having a diversified portfolio, Sime Darby Bhd (Sime) faces headwinds in all its key segments, leading analysts to believe that the group is likely to record slower than expected recovery in earnings for the fourth quarter of the financial year 2015 (4QFY15).

In a report, AllianceDBS Research Sdn Bhd (AllianceDBS Research) said, Sime is up against market challenges such as weak crude palm oil (CPO) prices, flat output in its plantations segment, mining companies’ cost-cutting measures affecting industrials, China’s anti-corruption drive affecting its motor business, to tighter credit affecting take-up in Malaysia’s property market.........@ ring i have alteady mentioned several times in this forum increase yield in Peninsular to 25mt similar to IOI or crassssssssh!

KUALA LUMPUR: Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB) is optimistic that the transfer of water assets in Selangor to the company can be completed ahead of the 60-day expiration deadline.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Ahmad Faizal Abdul Rahman said cooperation from all parties were good as there was mutual understanding that if they did not move on from this successfully, the deal would not go through.

“Negotiations are proceeding smoothly, and I believe there is no problem to resolve the water crisis for Selangor earliest by the end of August.

“We will do this as soon as possible…as long as this issue is not resolved the Langat 2 project cannot carry on smoothly,” he told reporters on the sidelines of PAAB’s Aidilfitri Open House here, today.

The water restructuring Supplemental Agreement was signed on July 10 by Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water Secretary-General Datuk Loo Took Gee, Selangor State Secretary Datuk Mohamed Khusrin Munawi, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd CEO Suhaimi Kamaral Zaman and Ahmad Faizal.

The signatories have 60 days to fulfill the Condition Precedents in the principal agreement.

On the Langat 2 project, Ahmad Faizal said the progress was at a 22 per cent completion rate.

“We are waiting for the Selangor government to release all permits and approvals, which are expected after the completion of the water supply services restructuring,” he said.

When asked whether water tariff would increase after the water supply services restructuring was completed, Ahmad Faizal said: “It is not PAAB’s responsibility to look at water rate as it is the prerogative of the respective state governments.

But as far as I know, water rate is not going to go up.” — Bernama
