#KLCI week ahead* KLCI to consolidate sideways
Saturday, 04 October 2014 09:37
KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 4): The FBM KLCI is expected to consolidate during a holiday-shortened trading period next week ahead of the tabling of Budget 2015 on Friday, Oct 10.
At the global markets, a strong improvement in the U.S. jobs market lifted the dollar to a four-year high against a basket of currencies on Friday while stocks also extended gains, taking heart from more evidence of a sustained recovery in the world's largest economy, according to Reuters.
Closely followed non-farm payrolls data for September showed U.S. employers had added 248,000 jobs, up from an upwardly revised 180,000 the previous month and beating forecasts of the 215,000 economists polled by Reuters had predicted beforehand. The jobless rate fell to a six-year low of 5.9 percent, it said.

Malaysian palm oil rises as crude bounces back
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian palm oil futures rose on Friday as crude oil bounced off a 27-month low, although the ringgit's strength curbed the gains and pulled the tropical oil to its first weekly drop in five.
Brent crude oil futures edged up on Friday to around $93.50 a barrel after a
three-day slide pushed prices to their lowest since 2012. The benchmark has
fallen more than 15 percent this year as global supplies remained high despite
rising conflict in the Middle East.
Palm oil typically moves in sync with crude oil prices due to its rising use
as a biofuel. Weaker crude oil prices makes the use of palm as a "green"
alternative less attractive.
"The sharp rebound in crude oil overnight should kick back buying interest
again, but the gains will be limited because of the ringgit," said a palm oil
trader with a foreign commodities brokerage in Kuala Lumpur.
The Malaysian ringgit added 0.06 percent and trading at 3.275 per
dollar at 0752 GMT on Friday.
The benchmark December contract on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives
Exchange had inched up 1.1 percent to 2,170 ringgit ($666) per tonne by Friday's

Oil edges up from more than 2-year low, glut caps gains
Wednesday, 01 October 2014 18:28
LONDON/SINGAPORE (Oct 1): Oil edged up from a more than two-year low to near $95 a barrel on Wednesday as a slightly better-than-expected Chinese factory survey countered worries of an economic slowdown in the world's No. 2 oil consumer and ample supplies.
Growth in China's manufacturing sector held up in September but remained subdued. The Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) came in at 51.1, just ahead of forecasts for a 51.0 reading and offering some relief to investors worried about slowing growth.
Concern over increasing OPEC oil supply, weak European and Chinese growth and a stronger dollar pushed global benchmark Brent to its lowest since June 2012 on Tuesday, and the same factors are likely to keep a lid on any price recovery.

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Thousands of pro-democracy protesters thronged the streets of Hong Kong on Wednesday, some of them jeering National Day celebrations, as demonstrations spread to a new area of the city, ratcheting up pressure on the pro-Beijing government.
There was little sign of momentum flagging on the fifth day of the student-led protest, whose aim has been to occupy sections of the city, including around the Central financial district, in anger at a Chinese decision to limit voters' choices in a 2017 leadership election.
