Retain our OVERWEIGHT stance on the sector with top BUYs on RHB Bank (fair value RM7.40/share), CIMB Group (FV RM6.70/share) and Maybank (FV RM10.30/share). For large-cap banks, we continue to like Maybank as our top ESG pick for banks and its attractive FY23F dividend yield of 7.3%.

SINGAPORE/HONG KONG (Sept 4): As global equities struggle after the Federal Reserve's (Fed) latest hawkish rhetoric, Southeast Asia's growth outlook is making the region an investor favourite.
Most of the region's biggest economies are expected to grow at least 5% this year, according to estimates compiled by Bloomberg, with the scrapping of pandemic-era restrictions offering a key boost.
Malaysia more than doubled its annual target for tourists following an uptick in recent months, while Thailand expects to reap in US$11 billion (RM49.33 billion) from a surge in foreign visitors in the second half.
The composition of Southeast Asia's equity benchmarks — low tech weighting and relatively high ratio of bank shares — is also favourable in a rising global interest-rate environment.

https://www.thestar.com.my/business/business-news/2022/09/03/man-group-asia-stocks-will-be-first-to-emerge-from-downturn
MAN Group Plc expects Asian stocks to outshine other regions next year as softer inflation and the end of an earnings downgrade cycle set the ground for an early rebound.
Within the region, the hedge fund giant is betting on defensive stocks in India and South-East Asia while cautioning that equities across northern Asia remain more vulnerable to trade headwinds and the economic slowdown in China.
“A lot of the problems the west is dealing with right now around speculative bubbles, over-stimulus, inflationary pressure and scarcity of labour – all these factors don’t exist in Asia,” said Andrew Swan, head of Asia ex-Japan equities at the Man GLG unit of the London-based asset manager.
“The foundations are much stronger now in Asia than in other markets.”

Yes, more than 700 points swing.....very volatile
...so, like Kenanga IB says.....buy high dividend yield stock.

@LeonardLiong......ASW is Amanah Saham Wawasan.......Many years ago they used to pay dividend above 6%....but last 2 years it was 4%, this year it's 3.75%....so. I am switching out from the fund to top up Maybank.
These fixed price funds from PNB hold a lot of Maybank.....if they hold 100% maybank then they can easily pay dividend above 6%....but they hold many other blue chips that are not performing well......so might as well I managed myself by switching to Maybank.

As such, Kenanga maintained its "overweight" call on the banking sector, with top picks leaning towards dividend counters to shelter against uncertainties — Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) and Affin Bank Bhd.
"In terms of top picks, we still like Maybank, which we highlight for its stellar dividend returns (7% to 8%) paired by its commendable asset quality readings in spite of being the leader in loans and deposits share," it said.

Now, it is still price fixing for DRP......institutions want cheap DRP.....sure will not let run yet.....no need to rush to buy.....can wait for good price.

@choysun.....RHB and CIMB give higher discount (about 10%) for DRP also.....
.....Maybank cannot afford to do that.....if they give big discount, then ASB will give big sell to take profit...haha..
....so a little is good, no need too much......also it will dilute future earnings.

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 25): Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank)’s nearly 60% increase in allowances for impairment losses on loans in the second quarter could just be a one-off event, said its newly appointed group president and chief executive officer Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli.
Khairussaleh explained that the spike in loan loss provision is a pre-emptive measure in anticipation of weaker external environment outlook in the second half of the year.
“This is a pre-emptive provision, and it is supposed to be one-off, particularly affecting segments of oil and gas as well as hospitality,” said Khairussaleh in his first media briefing on quarterly results since his return to Maybank in May.
