Back in the good old days — just a few weeks ago — every time the Greek Prime Minister went to Brussels or to a European Union meeting, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker would hug him, kiss him, even hold hands with him.

Yet, the last time Juncker welcomed Alexis Tsipras in Brussels there were no hugs and kisses, no sweet smiles and winks. This time it was only an awkward handshake and a frozen smile. It was evident that it was payback time for the European Union’s prodigal son.

Europe had to punish the Greek prime minister for his defiance, for all his accusations and harsh remarks when he was the main opposition party leader in Greece and now that he is the premier. Due to his inexperience and enthusiasm, Tsipras said a lot of bad things about several European officials. Some of his comments were downright insulting, slanderous even, in some cases.

Unfortunately, Europe chose to punish all Greeks along the way. The measures they proposed are so severe that they are guaranteed to push Greece deeper into recession quagmire. There is no way Greek pensioners would survive with further cuts or that the Greek economy can recover with a 23 percent VAT on hotels and restaurants.

One would think that the burdensome measures the Greek government proposed would be enough to secure a deal. They were worth 8 million euros in state revenues, despite the fact that 93 percent of that was heavy taxation across the board, but mostly to high incomes. In fact European partners called it a “good basis for an agreement,” then they rejected it a day later.

Simply because at this stage in the game European officials care less about a few hundred million here and there in the Greek budget. What they want is to humiliate Tsipras, make him look like a crook who became prime minister by lying to the desperate Greek people. They want him to sign an austerity memorandum while all his election campaign was based on his promise that he will abolish memoranda. Then send him back home as a betrayer of his leftist ideals, a traitor to his voters.

In no way would they let him go back to Athens with a good deal in his suitcase. Send him back as a winner, the first leftist state leader who dared to rebel against the European rules and processes.

This is where Europe showed its ugly face, its lack of compassion, its lack of solidarity. If only for the Greek people who have suffered poverty, unemployment, suicides, or lower living standards, European top brass could be more lenient, more forgiving.

Greece is running out of time on its painful way to default and bankruptcy. The European Union leaders have only a few days left to restore the forgotten European ideals of unity, solidarity and justice.

While European leaders are preparing for the summit, the European finance ministers Eurogroup started its second meeting in less than 24 hours. Both sides presented their reform proposals, however they were not able to reach an agreement and resolve their differences.

It was decided that the Eurogroup meeting would be suspended so that the Greek side can discuss with the creditors and present a common proposal to the European finance ministers.

French President Francois Hollande noted that the main difference between the two sides was in regards to the means of implementation and not the measures, therefore “it’s a technical issue.”

According to media reports, the meeting will resume on Saturday.

Greek PM Tsipras: ‘I am convinced we can reach a compromise…to overcome the crisis’

“I am convinced we can reach a compromise so that Greece and the Eurozone can overcome the crisis,” Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said going into an EU leaders’ summit in Brussels on Thursday, as talks in a bid to reach an agreement on Greece continued.

“European history is full of disagreements and negotiations that end in a compromise,” Tsipras said and expressed his conviction that the Greek proposals will make this possible.

EU’s Tusk says he has ‘good hunch’ of happy end to Greek drama

In an upbeat message as he arrived at the building where the European leaders’ summit will be held later on Thursday, European Council President Donald Tusk told reporters he had a “good hunch” that the talks on Greece will have a good outcome.

“The last hours have been really critical. But I have a good hunch that, unlike the Sophocles tragedies, this Greek story will have a happy end,” he said about the ongoing negotiations.

For the moment, Tusk noted that work was underway and that “for sure it will need still many hours,” adding that more information will be available after the meetings.

My guess they sign s&p in march, but completion occurred on 23 June. It is typical to complete s&p of this nature within a few months as there are typically conditions precedent to be fulfilled. My 2 sents

Dr jorg money belongs to family hor. The 12 cents invested in company but the 6.8cents made is his lor that why he agreed to work hard to bring in all the investor. This is management incentive.

Although we don't have details of his shareholding in CP Asia, but he is still substantial shareholder over there. He gain approx 50% from the disposal, but if he even own 50% of CP Asia, his gain will dwindle to just 25%. It is his own private company anyway. You think who fork out the money to buy from Dr. Jorg?

Blackul66...Fronkten has more or less come under the control of Cleanpart under Dr J supervision ....where money n resources can be easily tapped from Cleanpart for further expansions of Fronkten in Asia at later stage . Good for Fronkten long term investors per se...

sky2, yes i think it is a positive development. The best of all, technology sharing between cleanpart and frontken will also help Ares Green, further expansion in asia for cleanpart and also taping into TTES liscense with Petronas.

Dr Jog may be doing this for tax planning purpose. If I am not mistaken, In Germany, capital gains tax such as on share sale is applicable to a resident person and not a company. He expects the share price to go up further, so he did the transfer whilst the price is still low, the gain is low and the capital gain on him is still minimal. Once the shares are transferred to CP Asia, future capital gain on the shares are not taxable. Furthermore, after this, any share restructuring within group of business that he owns can be done a lot easier at lower tax cost. Just me guessing.
