Taiwan is Largest Semiconductor Materials Market - as SEMICON Taiwan Approaches

Taiwan is the world’s largest consumer of semiconductor materials for the seventh consecutive year, bringing new opportunities in this increasingly critical sector.

According to the SEMI Material Market Data Report, Taiwan’s semiconductor materials consumption was US$9.8 billion in 2016 − the world’s largest. Global semiconductor manufacturing equipment billings reached US$13.1 billion in Q1 2017, exceeding the record quarterly high set in Q3 2000. These figures signal that application drivers will continue to drive the development of a supply chain feeding their manufacturing processes, equipment and materials.

EPF to carefully consider any investment in technology stocks.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) will carefully consider any investment in technology stocks moving forward.

Chairman Tan Sri Shamsudin Osman said there was a need to understand the type of companies and risk return profile, to ensure any investment provides good returns to depositors.

“We’re very conservative in terms of our investments today. Of course, we may have a look at some of these (technology companies) in future. But, at the back of my mind, the concern is that our contributors get a good deal from the investment.

“We’re always very careful. The EPF is the largest fund for all employees and we’re very concerned over their money,” he told reporters after the launch of the International Social Security Conference 2017 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the deputy chief executive officer of strategy division, Tunku Alizakri Alias, said the EPF would consider investing in technology companies if they showed positive indications of having the right return profile.

“We’re also looking at those companies that will be around for the next 20 or 30 years to ensure the savings of contributors is going to be protected. The EPF, will therefore, be very careful in investing in any stocks or companies and take into consideration the risk profile,” he added.

- Semiconductor: Largest contributor after expanding with 19.6% CAGR from FY12 to FY16. Serving both domestic and international renowned foundries and display players.
Semiconductor division is expected to be the major growth driver for Frontken leveraging on the booming semiconductor industry. Based on WSTS’ latest May data, YTD17 global sales of semiconductor was even stronger than forecast.

This bodes well for Frontken as AGTC had expanded 7 new production lines in FY16. AGTC will be focusing more on foundries with capabilities of 28nm and below which will yield healthier margins at the expense of volume.

- Huge net cash, RM106 million as at March 2017 , representing RM0.10 for each share of RM0.40 for now and cash is continue pulling up.

- Rolling EPS 2.5 cents, assume PE x20, RM0.50
