Malaysia’s agreement with Pfizer void if Covid-19 vaccine fails to be registered with FDA, NPRA — health DG

Malaysia’s preliminary purchasing agreement with pharmaceutical company Pfizer will be void if the latter’s Covid-19 vaccine fails to be registered with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Malaysia’s National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), health director-general (DG) Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

Azrul said Galen is also concerned about the logistical burden to be shouldered by the MoH because the vaccine requires ultra-cold storage of -70°C, a capacity beyond most existing primary care healthcare facilities.

Therefore, the MoH would be reliant on the availability of suitable storage units at the state level to ensure that the vaccines' cold chain is not interrupted, according to him.

"We expect the most challenging part of the process to be the delivery of vaccines to rural areas. Due to limitations and pragmatic concerns, will urban areas end up being prioritised over rural areas?” Azrul asked.

Azrul said Malaysia needs to review its Budget 2021 allocations, especially those related to Covid-19 vaccination because the scheme involves more than just the cost of the vaccine but also supporting infrastructure expenses.

He said the country needs to ensure that the MoH gets the necessary funds and manpower needed to hit the ground running when the vaccine becomes available in 2021, especially since this vaccine has specific logistical and storage requirements which require investing in related infrastructure and training.

"Are we going to acquire Pfizer's special ice boxes? Have we allocated for the record-keeping system? As it stands, we do not believe that the existing allocations are adequate for the purpose. The health allocations need to be reviewed and increased," Azrul said.

Tbh I’ve traded KGB several times. 1st time was a loss but every time after that were profits. The last profit was bought on 25/11 and sold on 26/11

Currently things are still murky if you were to talk about the “vaccine dry ice requirements”

This is not a stock that’s fried; OK volume, low trade sizes. Dividends every year tho

I’ll monitor tmrw morning. May go in depending.....

I invested into KGB for the rapid expansion of semicon industry where KGB main revenue relies on. Another attraction of KGB is CO2 liquid in Kerteh. Dry ice is just a very new blue sky bonus to the investment thesis of KGB.

I do have a bit concern that the correct price spike up is caused by market hype on vaccine-dry ice which is very murky and uncertain. I will hold up firmly not to be swayed to sell KGB for short term quick profit.

KGB - Orderbook Surged on New Jobs

KGB’s post-results’ briefing received positive response from ~80 participants. KGB’s order-book reached a new high of RM370m as SMIC’s expansion hit full speed, with no signs of slowing. Job replenishment remains healthy. The group expects order-book level to remain elevated even after factoring a stronger 4Q ahead. In addition, KGB has been in touch with Pfizer to understand the use of dry ice to store vaccines. We believe the scarcity of deep freezer, especially in rural areas, makes dry ice a timelier and more efficient option for vaccine distribution. Positive prospects are juxtaposed with an attractive Fwd. PER of 18.7x vs peers’ average of 30-58x. Our OUTPERFORM call and TP of RM2.30 reaffirmed.

On September 28, shares in Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) plunged about 27% after the U.S. Commerce Department announced new export restrictions on China's biggest chipmaker. .

most of the impact has been accounted for already. So there is nothing new to this and it may have experienced some slight fall on official announcement. An old story

@Jolly, SMIC orders may regard as main potential for the future growth of KGB in UHP-related job which is the main revenue KGB derives from. SMIC may not get the UHP-related services from US, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan co...etc because these countries try to block China microchips development. That is why Kgb may get substantial works from SMIC..Though SMIC may contract the works to local China firm but Kgb has competitive advantages and vast experience in this field.

https://klse.i3investor.com/blogs/kenangaresearch/2020-12-02-story-h15...

Quote:

"...Order-book hits new high, again. SMIC is showing no signs of slowing down and indicated more UHP-related job awards as current utilisation is filled to the brim. As a result, KGB’s order-book has hit a new high of RM370m as at 30 Sep, thanks to strong replenishment of RM142m new orders from SMIC, Micron and Lam Research. The group expects order- book level to remain elevated even after factoring in a better 4Q. KGB is currently tendering for RM900m worth of jobs, spread equally across Malaysia, Singapore and China. Being regarded as a preferred vendor among large MNCs, the group is in a favourable position to benefit from various on-going expansions by WD Penang (announced RM2.3b investment), Micron SG (new fab construction), along with Lam Research, Bosch, and B Braun."

UAE says Sinopharm vaccine has 86% efficacy against COVID-19

DUBAI (Reuters) - An experimental coronavirus vaccine developed by China’s Sinopharm has 86% efficacy against the virus, the United Arab Emirates health ministry said on Wednesday, citing an interim analysis of a human trial underway there.

The Gulf Arab state in July started Phase 3 clinical trials of the vaccine, developed by Beijing Institute of Biological Product, a unit of Sinopharm’s China National Biotec Group (CNBG). In September, the UAE approved its emergency use for certain groups.

The analysis also shows “99% seroconversion rate of neutralizing antibody and 100% effectiveness in preventing moderate and severe cases of the disease”, the ministry said in a statement carried by the state news agency.

“The analysis shows no serious safety concerns,” it said.

It also said it had officially registered the vaccine, without elaborating, and that 31,000 volunteers across 125 nationalities participated in the UAE trial.

United Arab Emirates Claims China’s Sinopharm Vaccine Is 100% Effective At Preventing Moderate And Severe Covid-19

TOPLINE The experimental vaccine developed by China National Pharmaceutical Group, also known as Sinopharm, is 86% effective at preventing Covid-19 infection and 100% effective at preventing severe and moderate disease, health officials from the United Arab Emirates announced Wednesday, although with scarce detail provided about the trial.

The UAE health ministry cited an interim analysis of a late-stage clinical trial involving 31,000 volunteers as the source of its information, though neither they nor Sinopharm provided any data from the trial to validate the claims such as how many participants were infected or how many actually received the vaccine.

The ministry said “no serious safety concerns” were observed, though, again, no information on side effects was provided.

The ministry said the announcement is a “significant vote of confidence by the UAE’s health authorities in the safety and efficacy of this vaccine.”

The ministry added that it had officially registered the vaccine at the request of the manufacturer, which it says could eventually lead to the shot’s widespread authorization.

Kanger International Bhd has roped in Zuellig Pharma Sdn Bhd and K-Star Sport Ltd to collaborate on the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines in Malaysia.

The vaccine and other products are developed by state-owned China National Pharmaceutical Group Corp (Sinopharm).

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Kanger said it has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Zuellig Pharma, the largest vaccine distributor in Malaysia and in Asia, to facilitate the import, warehousing and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines in Malaysia.

Separately, Kanger announced that it has also entered into an MoU with K-Star to appoint the latter as the sales agent of Covid-19 vaccines for private clinics in Malaysia.

Kanger said both MoUs will add value to the group as it is now focused on expanding its business into the healthcare industry, which includes the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines, and is looking for a well-established logistics and distribution provider.

Hong Kong’s Ming Pao daily said in its editorial that there were grounds to believe that the UAE must have been stringent with the review and registration of the Chinese vaccine, given the country’s record of being transparent in its anti-virus policymaking and mass testing.

“The UAE also maintains sound ties with the West so sourcing vaccines from the United States or elsewhere should not be a grave challenge. If the Chinese vaccine is not safe or effective, there is no reason for the UAE to endorse Beijing’s vaccine propaganda and risk its own image and the health of its own people.

“Thus the UAE’s approval and its top leader’s injection of the SinoPharm vaccine have come as a much-needed vote of confidence that will help convince more countries. Diversified supply of vaccines, with viable alternatives from China, is key to ensuring fair and equitable access by poor countries,” said the op-ed.

SinoPharm revealed that senior officials in Egypt and Bahrain also took part in trials held there.

Possible Dry Ice Shortage, Crucial For Shipping, Looms Over Covid Vaccine Distribution

With U.S. officials hoping to distribute tens of millions of Covid-19 vaccines in the next few months, demand is expected to skyrocket for dry ice—essential to maintain the super-cold temperatures the vaccines need to remain at during transport—which is now leading to concerns about a potential shortage that could have broad-ranging economic impacts.

FDA intends to 'proceed towards an authorization' of Covid-19 vaccine, official says, as cases soar

(CNN)The FDA has informed Pfizer it intends "to proceed towards an authorization" of the manufacturer's Covid-19 vaccine, the US Health and Human Services Secretary told ABC on Friday morning, as the country is deep into a worsening health crisis.

The statement comes a day after an FDA panel recommended the agency grant an emergency use authorization for the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine.Other key steps remain, but if those hurdles are cleared, the first vaccinations in the US could happen early next week, HHS Secretary Alex Azar told ABC's George Stephanopoulos.

"The FDA informed Pfizer that they do intend to proceed toward an authorization for their vaccine," Azar told ABC Friday morning.
